CYRK, the title of Cate Le Bon’s upcoming album, means “circus” in Polish.
The title is incredibly fitting because this Welsh singer, who is just coming off of a tour with St. Vincent and hip hop collection Neon Neon, has filled her second effort with folk-pop gems that sound like they were recorded on the road during a Barnum and Bailey tour.
But in this circus, Jefferson Airplane would be the ringleaders and Le Bon would be the tight rope walker, carefully balancing lyrical themes from her experiences on the road with ones of a more existential nature.
And with her signature intricate melodies and moods that shift from gloomy to playful, you can bet she keeps us on our toes.
