something’s fishy…

dIn part two of this week’s excessive nail designs: the caviar manicure!

As part of their new collaboration with Sephora, Ciaté is now offering a good-enough-to-eat manicure that they call the Caviar (but if you ask us, we think it looks a more like cupcake decoration…).

It’s available now in sets to do at home–including a base polish and the pearlescent beads, in either rainbow, black, or white.

Don’t want to DIY? Come May, the pros can do it for you in Sephora stores.

It looks pretty delicious in this picture, and we can’t wait to try it out for ourselves (minus the beaded lips).

What do you think? The caviar/cupcake manicure: good idea, or bad idea?

Ciate has applied to trademark the term “caviar manicure”, and is sending out cease & desists to bloggers who use it in a capacity other than associating it with their product, DESPITE THE FACT that the method was not created by Ciate. http://prettydigits.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/i-just-received-this-email-it-has-come.html

Also, the “crap glued to your lips” look is a bit played out.

This is odd that you post about this today: Fish Egg Friday. Ciate is sending “Cease and Desist” letters to all bloggers that post a DIY, cheaper version of the Caviar Mani. They are claiming that they “invented” it and that they are “in the process of trademarking” it. In all actuality, Dashing Diva did it first back in February 2011 for the Cushnie et Ochs show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Now how is Ciate able to trademark a STOLEN idea?

It’s pretty but the texture on my nails would drive me nuts. If that was under acrylic or something, that would be cool!

I spent about a week testing out this look to see if it was something worth offering at the nail salon where I work, and I’s say it works best as a high-impact look for one big night out. I tend to pick at nail polish when it starts chipping and the texture of these is difficult to leave alone, and after a couple of days I was more than ready to take it off. But if you want something eye catching, it’s exactly that. For the record you can get the microbeads at craft stores and dollar stores if you want to DIY it on the cheap, and I was able to prepare food with this mani without accidentally ingesting any beads!!

I’m telling you, I loved the look when I did this last year (turquoise beads all over) but it was a BITCH to take off. I eventually got 1 lodged under my nail where it stayed for a full day. It hurt and I thought it would never come out! I’ll never do it again.
