Ever sent a text with the cautionary follow-up, “Delete this message?”

Now, there’s an app for that.

With SnapChat, you can send texts or pictures that have a self-destruct timer. The recipient has up to 10 seconds, depending on the length of your trust, to read your message before it disappears forever, keeping your secret (or saucy photo) safe. And if the receiver tries to beat the system by taking a screenshot, the sender is immediately notified. Sneaky!

It’s kind of the ultimate mean girl app, and we’re not sure it replaces the time-honored tradition of passing notes, or the tech-savvy James Bond paper that explodes on cue, but it’s still pretty fun to test -

Especially because it’s free in the App Store.
