Independence Day x Cocktail Recipes = The True Pursuit of Happiness!
This July 4th, as you barbeque under colorfully lit, nighttime skies and celebrate America’s independence, it may come as a bit of a surprise to learn that you are not exactly alone. Many countries, in fact, celebrate their independence in July.
And to commemorate this fact, we listed a few of the most unusual cocktail recipes featuring Hendricks Gin from each of these countries below.

Somalia (July 1st)
* In traditional Somalian desserts, ginger can be found as common ingredient, adding tartness and sweetness. A lemon gingerini would pair nicely with dessert, or as a dessert in itself.
Lemon Gingerini
2.5 oz. Hendricks Gin
¾ oz. Lemon Juice
½ oz. Ginger syrup (Add grated or cut ginger into traditional simple syrup, and let it infuse for awhile)
Mix all ingredients together, shake and then serve in a martini glass. Squeeze a lemon peel over the rim of the glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
Surinam (July 1st)
* One of the largest exports coming out of Surinam today is bananas and plantains. The arcadia combines this flavorful export with Hendricks gin to create a cocktail perfect for toasting independence in Surinam.
Arcadia
1.5 oz. Hendricks Gin
½ oz. Crème de Bananes
½ oz. Galliano liqueur
½ oz. Grapefruit juice
Shake all ingredients well, and serve in a martini glass. Serve with plantain chips for a nice pairing.
Philippines (July 4th)
* Mangos are a frequent addition to many Filipino recipes, in both savory dishes, as well as desserts. The unique flavor of the mango paired with apricots and Hendricks gin, makes this cocktail something worth celebrating.
Mango-Apricot Martini
2.5 oz. Hendricks Gin
½ oz. Apricot brandy
½ oz. Simple syrup
½ oz. Fresh lemon juice
2 slices Fresh mango
Muddle down the fresh mango and then pour into a shaker along with the rest of the ingredients. Shake well and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a wedge of fresh mango.
Algeria (July 5th)
* A large section of the Algerian canvas in blanketed in the Sahara desert; the largest hot desert on the planet. What better way to escape the heat, than with this uniquely named cocktail. Sahara Glowing Heart Cocktail
1 oz. Hendricks Gin
1 oz. Absinthe
1 oz. Apricot Brandy
½ oz. Grenadine
Shake all ingredients well, and strain into a martini glass. A dash of extra grenadine will make this cocktail sweeter and help dilute the absinthe.
Argentina (July 9th)
* This countries’ self-titled cocktail should have everyone ready to raise a glass in celebration. This Hendricks cocktail is gins answer to those seeking something in an old-fashioned without the whiskey.
Argentina Cocktail
1 oz. Hendricks Gin
1 oz. Dry Vermouth
1/2 tsp. Cointreau or triple sec
1/2 tsp. Benedictine DOM
1 dash Bitters – Orange
2 drops Bitters – Angostura
1/2 tsp. Orange Juice
Shake with cracked ice; strain into chilled cocktail glass.
Bahamas (July 10th)
* If the Bahamas had to claim a signature drink, Gin and coconut water would take the prize hands down. With no shortage of coconuts, this is an easy drink with little preparation. In fact many Bahamians simply poke a hole in a coconut, dump out half the juice, fill the rest with gin, and enjoy. Plus no need for glassware or doing the dishes, and who can argue with that? Here are two variations of this signature beverage.
Gully Wash
2 oz. Hendricks Gin
2 oz. Coconut Water
4 oz. Condensed Milk
Mix the gin and coconut water in half the glass over ice. Then fill the rest with condensed milk. Or for fun, cut a hole in coconut, pour out about half the coconut milk, fill the rest with Gin, and serve with a straw.
Bahamian Sky Juice
4 Ripe Coconuts
1 cup Evaporated Milk
1 cup Hendricks Gin
3 tbsp. Sugar
1 tsp. Ground cinnamon
½ tsp. Freshly Grated Nutmeg
Poke through the eyes of the coconuts, and drain liquid into a mixing bowl. Mix in all of your ingredients, and stir until sugar is dissolved. Refrigerate mixture until cold. The funnel the cocktail into the empty coconut shells, add a straw and enjoy! Recipe serves 4.
France (July 14th)
* What could be more French than this appropriately named, bubbly cocktail? The French 75, which has gained recent popularity in America, is one of France’s most common alcoholic beverages. Light and refreshing with a burst of citrus, this drink will have you imagining yourself at a café in the Champs-Elysees. For an added French twist, try adding lavender syrup to this already delightful drink.
French 75 or Lavender French 75
2 oz. Hendricks Gin
½ oz. Lemon Juice
½ oz. Simple syrup or 1 tsp. Superfine Sugar
Champagne
1 oz. Lavender syrup (Optional)
Shake gin, lemon juice and simple syrup over ice. Strain mixture into a champagne flute. Top off with champagne. Garnish with a lemon twist.
Colombia (July 20th)
* Columbians have no shortage of passion, making it even more appropriate that passion fruit would be one of the most frequently found tropical fruits in this country. This is one of many exotic fruits that make this part of the world a little sweeter. This combination of Hendricks gin with lime and passion fruit would fit right in on Colombia’s Independence Day.
Passion Fruit & Lime Gin Martini
1 oz. Hendricks Gin
2 oz. Passion fruit juice
½ oz. Fresh lime juice
Shake all ingredients well, and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Belgium (July 21st)
* The elderflower has created quite a splash in the alcohol world recently. This sweet, delicious nectar is indigenous in the Dutch regions. Belgium is one of the few countries actively harvesting this plant. The addition of elderflower liqueur transforms a traditional gimlet into a cocktail you wont be able to resist.
Elderflower Gimlet
2 oz. Hendricks Gin
1 oz. St. Germain elderflower liqueur
½ oz. Freshly squeezed lime juice
Shake all ingredients well, and serve in a martini glass. Garnish with a lime twist or an edible flower blossom or orchid.
Egypt (July 23rd)
* Just as baffling a mystery as who built the pyramids, is the mystery of how such an exotic fruit as the pomegranate manages to grow indigenously in the intense heat of the Egyptian sun. The tartness of the lime and pomegranate blended with Hendricks gin will have you walking like an Egyptian in no time!
Gin Pomegranate Blush
1.25 oz. Hendricks Gin
1 splash Pomegranate juice
1 splash Tonic Water
1 squeeze Lime Juice
Pour gin over ice in a highball glass and top with tonic water. Add pomegranate and lime juice. Garnish with a lime.
Maldives (July 26th)
* Some things are just meant to be together: like Hendricks gin and cucumbers or cocktails and the beach. So what could be more fitting than this cucumber infused beverage on a hot summer day? One sip and you will feel like you’re in the crystal blue waters of the Maldives…even if you’re actually just wading in an inflatable kiddie pool on an NYC rooftop.
Cucumber Collins
1.5 oz. Hendricks Gin
4.5 oz. Cucumber puree (Blend one cucumber with 3 oz. of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 4 oz. of simple syrup)
Shake both ingredients well, and strain into a tall glass filled with ice.
Garnish with a rod of cucumber.
Peru (July 28th)
* This gin-based take on a Moscow Mule would compliment any of the classic Peruvian dishes enjoyed in this country. Ceviche, being one of the most common meals enjoyed in Peru, is traditionally served with a refreshing lime-based beverage. The crisp and refreshing Gin Gin Mule would also fit right in at that 4th of July barbecue you’ve been planning!
Gin Gin Mule
2 oz. Hendricks Gin
¾ oz. Fresh squeezed lime juice
½ oz. Ginger simple syrup
Splash Ginger Beer
6-8 Mint Leaves
Muddle mint, lime juice and simple syrup. Shake with gin, and strain over ice in a rocks glass or a copper mug. Top off with ginger beer, and either garnish with a sprig of mint or a cucumber slice.
Vanuatu (July 30th)
* Deep in the heart of the South Pacific, lies Vanuatu, a tropical paradise surrounded by waters you can see right through. In the tropical humidity of the south pacific, a refreshing cocktail is nearly mandatory. Nothing is more refreshing than the classic Hendricks gin and juice. The tart blend of citrus and gin make this drink the obvious choice in celebrating Vanuatu’s independence day.
Gin and Juice
2 oz. Hendricks Gin
2 oz. Grapefruit Juice
3 oz. Orange Juice
Shake all ingredients well, and serve on the rocks in a highball glass. Garnish with a wedge of lime.
