DIY Designers Hit The Books

Both Olympia Le Tan’s $1500 book clutches and ASOS’ $25 versions have sold out completely.
Fortunately, the crafty DIY covens from The Hob Etsy have taken to their libraries and made their own versions. Some are dangerously close to the originals – this $64 “Lolita” clutch looks exactly like the one Natalie Portman wore on a red carpet – while others, like this “Secret Garden” clutch, are more unique, at least to us. Thumbing through all the options, the most popular book covers to use as inspiration / actual material for the clutches are “Wuthering Heights” and “Nancy Drew” – though yes, there are a few “Hunger Games” contenders, too!
PS – It’s not quite DIY, but Urban’s joining the book club as well.

On the Etsy count, the clutch made from a copy of The Secret Garden is out of one of those Barnes & Noble Leatherbound Classics series, and the book itself costs about 10$. You might rather pick one up and have a go of it yourself. There are plenty more in the series as well.
I’ve been a little irate about these because I had been using Etsy (And other venues) to try to track down a first edition of a book I wanted, and I finally found one on Etsy. Only it had been ripped apart and “recycled” into a journal. This is a book that was worth potentially 1,000. If they are using new books, like I mentioned above, then okay I guess, but ruining antique ones makes me very sad. I am very impressed with the cloth one, except it just being a rip off of the Olympia Le Tan, which is sad for a different reason.
