At left, check out these embroidery wrapped headphones, new in at Free People.
The Process: Appears to be just a friendship bracelet made on basic, white ear buds.
The Result: A perfect pairing of music and crafty colorfulness that we can’t believe we didn’t think of first.
So here’s the question: Considering you likely have a pair of old ear buds and some embroidery floss lying around (we certainly do!), would you…
a) Be down to put your crafting skills to the test with us?
b) Rather just buy the real thing? ($48 here)
c) Don’t like them enough to do either?

This wouldn’t be very difficult, just time consuming! I would much rather make my own than shell out fifty bucks for them. Who knows what the sound quality is like, anyway.

You can’t really call the Free People headphones the “real thing” when tutorials have been floating around forever on how to DIY this. Only idiots would pay $48 for some embroidery floss wrapped headphones. I’m sure these are sucky headphones. Better off doing it yourself to a pair of headphones you know sound good. Embroidery floss is super and available in most craft stores, and big box stores, like Wal-Mart. And of course online

Considering that I’ve already done this to my own earbuds for less than $5 with the pair that came with my ipod, I probably wouldn’t spend $48 on one. The knotting is really simple to do, it just takes time.
But if I didn’t already have earbuds, it really depends on the quality of the earbuds that have been wrapped. Because if they’re just a cheap pair its still cheaper to go out and buy a $10 pair to wrap yourself.

$48 isn’t so bad, considering the “trendy” ones here usually cost about $90 (be it NZD though…)
It’d stil be funner (is funner a word?) to DIY though!

I think these are super cool, but not cool enough to spend $50 on. I might make some of my own.
