Notes From The Runway: The Time We Hung With the Olsens

Shows during Fashion Week tend to be massive affairs; hundreds of people vying for just a few seats (it’s kind of like musical chairs, honestly), all packed together in a darkened room. Celebrities may take up the front row (the designer is always in the back, emerging only for a final bow), but they’re surrounded by frenzied photographers and, on occasion, a security team.
So the show for Elizabeth and James was hardly typical.
I walked in to a brightly lit room, filled with a dozen benches, to be greeted by Mary-Kate and Ashley. It was me and about 10 other editors, and we sat in the space and watched as models filed past, one by one–as the Olsens watched along, too.
It was kind of like a chef sitting down next to you at a restaurant, looking at you eat and wondering what your reaction would be.
Of course, the clothes were great, so it hardly mattered. But in case you were wondering whether Mary-Kate and Ashley actually care about their lines–well, the photo above is your answer (yes, that’s Ashley to the right). –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS
