Beauty Queen: Ashley Greene

Ashley Greene’s new bright red dye job goes against everything there is to know about natural look color and it’s so awesome. It’s a red so obvious that without any other help she suddenly looks way edgier.

Which brings up a very good point: You don’t necessarily need a Rick Owens jacket or expensive boots to reinvent an edgier version of you. Sure, Greene’s dye job was done by a pro, but our how-to is exactly what the best salons use (and it’s under $50).

If you’re feeling experimental, here’s a really simple way to the brightest red.

WASH IT: Davines Alchemic Red Shampoo, $21.39

This is what the salons use! If your hair is darker, you’ll need to wash it a few extra times. The color will hold well to blonde hair.

CONDITION IT: Davines Alchemic Red Conditioner, $27.98

Follow your wash, rinse and repeat pattern with the Davines condition to further enhance your color and also seal it.

KEEP IT: Oribe Masque For Beautiful Color, $59

Since brights do require more upkeep, take extra steps to protect your color. A weekly hair mask will tack on extra days in between coloring sessions. —RAY SIEGEL

Oh wow, I like it. I’m going to go the super-cheap way and buy a $12 box of red hair dye. Semi-permanent. Maybe not. Good thing I’m broke.
