Oh Sandy: How To Help

While we at NYLON love our crazy nail polish trends and our indie buzz bands, we also care about people. So it’s been hard to watch the news and see the damage inflicted by Hurricane Sandy and not want to help.
Luckily, there are a lot of ways you can do just that–even if you’re not in the New York/New Jersey area. Here are just a few examples, but for a full list check out the list compiled by our friends over at Gothamist. Our thoughts may usually be on other things, but today they’re with those affected by this devastating storm.
If You Want To Volunteer: Contact New York Cares, which is accepting volunteer applications online.
If You Want To Donate Money: The Red Cross is not currently accepting item donations (sorry, Mitt Romney!), but they are asking for monetary support. You can do that online, on the phone (1-800-RED-CROSS), or, perhaps the easiest of all options, by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
If You Want To Give Blood: Visit The Red Cross’ blood drive website for listings of those scheduled for your area.
