If you like Mazzy Star (can you believe it’s been almost 20 years since “Fade Into You?”) then you best be acquainted with newer bands like Widowspeak that they’ve paved the way for. It’s been a year since we’ve first heard the Brooklyn-based band perform and so far we’ve liked everything they’ve followed up with including “Ballad of the Golden Hour,” which released today. Plus, we love all of their visuals—always a good sign of creative talent. For example, the duo behind a plant (tree? African bush?) while wearing a dope vintage Lee jacket and vintage lace, respectively. Be sure to look up their hand-drawn album covers too.
If you’re local, the band starts their winter tour at Mercury Lounge on January 22 and again, the new single is out on Soundcloud.—RAY SIEGEL
