Welcome to Miami: Part Three

The last three days of Art Basel/Miami Art Week were a handful. Nonstop celeb sightings, plenty of parties with free flowing booze, and themes so crazy we could hardly believe it. (Cats as art? A sugary roller coaster?) So here, our final recap:
Number of Satellite Fairs We Checked Out: Eight
Most Star-Studded Book Party: Terry Richardson’s Terrywood at the Standard on Friday featured the photographer, along with Pharrell Williams, Demi Moore, and Azealia Banks (who performed, as well).
Best Set Design: The Stage at Spin Magazine’s NQB8R festival on Friday. So bright and colorful, it almost overshadowed the performers themselves.
Best Basel Theme Ever: Art Meowsel at O Cinema. It was the cat’s meow, with feline-themed art, short films, and even a bit of performance art (ie a kitty sleeping in a glass room for all to see). It was far from catatonic.
Artist Who Didn’t Want To Display at Basel, But Did Anyway: Banksy. A few of his best-known pieces were cut out of walls around the world and displayed at Context Miami and Art Miami, as part of the “Out of Context” Exhibit.
Craziest Performance Art Piece: Peter Anton’s Sugar & Gomorrah roller coaster, which combined sugar and sex. Yes, you read that correctly.
The Best (Sort Of) Band Reunion: The LCD Soundsystem Book Launch Party at the Hotel Victor on Saturday. In addition to the photo exhibit, the drunk dancing pandas, and Nancy Whang on the decks, there was also a room filled with oversized white balloons, a disco ball, and a screening of the band’s final performance. We danced ourselves clean!
Band That Made Us Forget Just How Tired We Were: Hundred Waters at Grand Central. We were beat, but the band brought us back to life with their ethereal sounds.
Our Favorite Shopping Experience: The Mini Market at Wood Tavern on Saturday and Sunday, filled with locals selling handmade jewelry and vintage wares.
The Pool Party to End All Pool Parties: The Art of Ping Pong, hosted by SPiN and Chandon at the Standard, with teams from the Bass Museum, The Whitney Museum, and more–as well as boat tours on Biscayne Bay.
Celebrities We Didn’t Expect To See Party-Hopping: Beyonce and Jay-Z at the Le Baron pop-up on Saturday, hanging out with everyone else. NBD. –CRISSY BORGES

Zola Jesus most definitely did not perform at Grand Central on Saturday. Because her gig at the UR1 festival was canceled, she didn’t come to town at all, and her cancellation was announced some days before.

Not sure who you saw perform instead, as with the exception of Hundred Waters, all the other acts who performed that night were all male.
