If I were to put together a venn diagram with once circle featuring yellow clothes and the other cut-out dresses, I wouldn’t expect a ton of overlap. One’s sweet, the other’s sexy.

Yet in the past week, the two have combined into pieces that are–wait for it–red carpet appropriate.

First we had British actress Rosamund Pike in a canary yellow open-back gown from Alexander McQueen (spring ’13, natch). Then Rita Ora wore a citron bandeau-and-slit Calvin Klein Collection number to Jingle Bell Ball in London. The two couldn’t be more different, not only in looks but also in career trajectories, and yet they both totally pull it off.
