Why We Love These Shoes By Alejandro Ingelmo

We are a strangely patriotic bunch in the NYLON office–hello, we have an annual America issue.

And nothing gets us as excited as seeing really rad clothing made in one of the 50 states. So of course when the news that Alejandro Ingelmo was launching a new line of shoes called Made in Maine for spring ’13, we got pretty excited. And then we saw the actual shoes, which hit stores this week, and our excitement went to obsession.

The designer took two classic American styles–the penny loafer and the boat shoe–and gave them a very cool, very downtown twist. (Think platforms and neon accent brush strokes.) Each pair lives up to the collection’s name, because yup, they were all handcrafted in a Maine factory. And if you’re thinking, My boyfriend lives in his Alejandro Ingelmo sneakers, then good news: The shoes come in men’s sizes and styles, too. We promise they’ll hit Barneys and Neiman Marcus this week, but in the meantime here are a few snaps of the shoes. –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS
