Let’s play a game: First, you’re going to put on your headphones and press play to the Hollis Brown song “Down On Your Luck” (you’ll find a stream below). Then you’re going to close your eyes as you listen. Finally, you’re going guess where the throwback five-piece hails from.
Memphis? Austin? Nope….
New York City. That’s right: Don’t let Hollis Brown‘s perfectly twangy, Instagram filter haze-y sound fool you, they are city boys. Of course, they found a way to be a little bit country and a little bit rock’n'roll while recording their debut full length album Ride On The Train (out March 5)–they worked out of a studio in Nashville with producer Adam Landry (who has teamed up with bands like Deer Tick in the past).
So no matter where you are, pour yourself a whiskey, dim the lights, pull on your dirt-crusted cowboy boots, and listen to our exclusive premiere of Hollis Brown’s “Down On Your Luck.” –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS
