The Week That Was One Big Music Flashback

Our week started with the Tuesday morning announcement that David Bowie was back with a new album after 10 years.

We kind of freaked out, but had hardly picked up our jaw from the floor when another bombshell was dropped: Destiny’s Child was getting back together! (They’re performing together at the Super Bowl, too!)

And so, we freaked out again. But if you were left thinking, “What I’d really like to see is some ’90s boy band star take a break from his tepid acting career and sudden tech investments to do a little more choreographed dancing and high-note hitting for me,” well, you were in luck too: This was also the week that Justin Timberlake teased out the idea that he may be back in the studio. (His official announcement is coming on Sunday, but just know that it hasn’t been totally confirmed.)

So what does all this mean?

a) We’re really, really glad that the world didn’t end in December, because think of all the flashbacks we’d be missing out on.

b) Enough time has past that we can feel really, really  nostalgic about the past–even if it is the recent past.

c) Our weekend playlist is definitely going to include, “Cry Me a River,” “Say My Name,” and “Space Oddity.”

But the question remains: Of the three comebacks, which are you most excited about? Sound off in the comments! –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS

I am excited for all of these comebacks — it shows that when an artist is truly talented, they can make a comeback whenever they want and people will be willing to listen and buy.

I am most excited for David Bowie’s comeback as he has for so long been my favorite singer. He was actually more than a singer, he was a character, well several. He is the reason why we have artists today like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry who push the boundaries. He was one of the first to really push the boundaries of the music+art relationship and people shouldn’t forget it.

Looking forward to seeing what Bowie does now that he has been out of the music scene for so long. So far so good.
