Paul Dano + Good Vibrations = Brian Wilson?

Paul Dano has come a long way since Little Miss Sunshine–he’s since had turns as a money-hunting pastor in There Will Be Blood, a time-traveling hit-man in Looper, and a genius (but also possibly crazy) writer in Ruby Sparks.

But is he ready to take on the part of Brian Wilson, falsetto solos and all?

We’re about to find out: Dano nabbed the role of the Beach Boy in the upcoming film Love & Mercy, an in-the-works Wilson biopic. While we sort out how we feel about the casting–he’s going to need a serious wig to give his hair a bit of the ol’ Beach Boy volume–we already know how Wilson feels about it.

“I am thrilled that Paul Dano has signed on to play me during one of my most creative explosions and most fulfilling musical times in my career,” was what the musician said in a press release, adding, “I still can’t believe how cool it is that my life will be portrayed on the big screen and to have Bill Pohlad as the captain of the Sloop John B is amazing! It just makes me feel so humble. I can’t wait to see it with a full tub of buttered popcorn.”

(As an aside: Can we please rename this movie the Sloop John B?)

Let us know what you think about the casting in the comments, and then for your weekend viewing pleasure we leave you with… “California Girls” performed live in 1965.
