Editor’s Pick: Pour Some Sugar On Me

By now, you’ve probably heard from everyone that Searching For Sugar Man is the best documentary ever.
Manohla Dargis described it as “hugely appealing.” Rotten Tomatoes reviewers gave it a 96-percent fresh rating. And my mom–by no means a rock’n'roll aficionado–called me moments after leaving the theater with breathless praise.
And yet I somehow missed it in theaters. So for everyone who, like me, missed it the first time around, now’s your chance: Searching For Sugar Man comes out on DVD this week. Not only do you get to see the fascinating film–which explores what, exactly, happened to Rodriguez, why he never made it big in the US, how he became so huge (like, bigger than the Rolling Stones huge) in far-flung places like South Africa–but you also get two behind-the-scenes featurettes and commentary from the musician himself.
Now that I’ve finally seen it, there literally shouldn’t be anyone left who hasn’t. Which means: get on it. –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS
