If we had a hit TV show, we’d probably peace out between seasons, retreating to some secret island that we bought with our syndication rights money and zoning out the world.

But then, we’d miss out on having an equally successful music career, a la Zooey Deschanel. The big-eyed, blunt-banged actress has timed it so that just as New Girl takes a break for the summer, things with She & Him–her music project with M. Ward–picks back up.

First the duo are releasing their third album, called Volume 3, on May 7. It features 11 original tracks from Deschanel plus three covers…plus help from friends-in-bands like Tilly and the Wall and Rilo Kiley’s Pierre de Reeder. Then in mid-June they’re kicking off a month-long tour, making stops at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, the Hollywood Bowl, and Central Park.

And after that? She’s back to your TV set. –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS
