There’s this weird misconception that you can either dress girly or tough, but not both.
Where it comes from–fairytales? Barbie? There’s probably some Women’s Studies thesis on it–we couldn’t say, but we whole-heartedly disagree with the concept. Take Anna Kendrick’s outfit to the dinner she hosted in celebration of Marissa Webb’s new clothing line: No, we’d never imagine seeing the Pitch Perfect star in a skin-tight leather jumpsuit, but she somehow takes her normally super-feminine style and gives it some claws.
The key? Accent pieces. Kendrick has as the foundation a frilly dress, but pairs it with a killer leather vest and some very boardroom-bitch heels. Top it off with some bouncy curls and barely-there makeup and you’re not sure if she’s going to hug you or punch you in the gut. Which–trust–is a very good thing.
Here’s what we’d recommend to becoming an in-betweener, too. –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS
