We know, ascribing a musical genre to each and every band suppresses creativity and puts things that shouldn’t be into boxes into, well, boxes.

But it seems like it just wouldn’t be right to tell you about Beliefs, a Toronto duo comprised of Jesse Crowe and Josh Korody, and not mention the word shoegaze. Because really, shoegaze captures a sound as much an attitude–and for their new music video for “Violets,” they pull it all together.

Moody, dreamy, hazy…and that’s just the song itself. Though the film is a bit inscrutable, the way it makes us feel isn’t hard to figure out: We like it. A lot. And shoegaze genre or not, the song’s quickly become a favorite. Watch the video above to see what we mean. –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS
