The Face: Rodarte

When you look at this photo, “inspired by a day at the beach” is not what you expect to hear. Generally, the same thing goes for most fall/winter beauty looks, but a beach day with high humidity levels was exactly what James Kaliardos for Nars had in mind for today’s Rodarte show. Kaliardos told us backstage at the show, “It’s the idea that makeup had been applied on the beach— a bit messy—as if the mascara fell onto their faces, speckled like stars in the sky.”
Here’s the key to getting the look: take a mascara wand and dip it into a pot of Nars Mesopotamia eye paint (available for sep 13). Then dab it under the eyes to get that speckled look. For a similar effect you can use Nars’ dark brown shadow, Coconut Grove. Coincidentally, I’m wearing it right now.—RAY SIEGEL
