The Front Row Tribes Of Fashion Week

Anthropologists studying New York Fashion Week would likely comment not on the models or the clothes, but the interactions in the front row. Famous faces–from local It Girls to Us Weekly-level celebs–are seated side-by-side, often right next to complete (equally famous) strangers. They’re then forced to make like they totally get along and are having the time of their lives as the cameras snap away and the minutes tick down to when the show actually starts.
This season is no different, and we’ve spotted some very interesting front row combos. Here are a few of our favorites:
In the photo above, you’ll see Jessica Hart, Petra Nemacova, Coco Rocha, Nichole Galicia, Sami Gayle, and Leigh Lezark sitting in a row. What, say the teenaged Gayle and the deck master Lezark have in common, well…we’re not really sure. But at the very least we’re sure they exchanged a few friendly words before turning back to their cell phones and looking very, very busy. Think of it as the equivalent of being forced to sit at a totally different group’s lunch table in middle school. Awkward….

It’s not all awkward–check out this front row coupling with Zoe Kravitz, Alison Mosshart, and Natasha Lyonne. The first two are trying to look super-serious, but it’s clear from the actress’ reaction that they are actually having the best time ever.

Other stare-at-the-front-row games? Scoping out the clothing. At Zac Posen, you could play “Which One Of These Is Not (Dressed) Like The Others, featuring Katharine McPhee, Atlanta DeCadenet, Harley Viera Newton, and Leigh Lezark (answer: Leigh, in a full-length gown while the rest are keeping it way more casual).

And then there’s Name The Face. At Y-3, it’s not hard to spot Lezark–but her neighbor? That’s ASAP Rocky. Maybe next time they’ll trade outfits. –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS
