Lena Dunham Has Us Rethinking The Strapless Dress

Though she may favor yellow mesh tank tops and shorteralls while playing Hannah Horvath, we’ve noticed that in real life Lena Dunham is a big fan of the strapless top.
Exhibit A: Her strapless Reed Krakoff dress at this week’s Writers Guild Awards (which Girls nabbed a statue for Best New Series).

Exhibit B: Her strapless custom Thakoon dress at the Directors Guild Awards earlier this month.

Exhibit C: Her strapless Valentino jumpsuit at the Girls season two premiere in January.
What’s interesting about it is that an informal survey of the NYLON staffers found that very few of us are regular strapless wearers. One mentioned them being too high-maintenance (“You have to keep looking down to make sure you’re still covered up!”), while another told an anecdote about using double-sided tape to keep a tube top up in college. For someone as comfortable with her body as Dunham, perhaps the strapless isn’t such a scary fashion fixture.
And you know what? She’s looked rad in all three looks, so maybe we’ll be rethinking the strapless come summer. We also might be investing in some double-sided tape, too. What about you? –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS
