We’re back with the latest installment of our weekend guide, giving you the lowdown on the what and the why of where you’ll want to be this weekend, from the raddest concert in NYC to the most shakin’ dance party in Nashville.
Want more? Yeah, we thought so. Sign up for your local NYLON Daily! We’ve got 10 cities in all, and you’ll get the skinny on the best events going down every day. And as we all know, knowledge is power, so. . .get some! -COLLEEN KELSEY
Why: The pop-infused rock band, made up of NYLON TV alum Tracy “Spacey Tracy” Antonopoulos and Ben Morsberger, provided the tunes for Timo Weiland’s show and after party this past NYFW, and these up-and-comers are definitely ones to watch!
Why: If you haven’t checked out our latest Band Crush, you’re kind of missing out. The Brooklyn-based collective of 9 rappers, musicians, singers, DJs, and producers has been putting out a super-unique, next generation mix of hip-hop, jazz, soul, and dance, and tomorrow night, they’re headlining at Brighton Music hall along with Rite Hook. Really, you won’t want to miss it.
Why: This Saturday, Jacob Jones, DJ of The 5 Spot’s infectious Keep on Movin’ Monday night dance parties and founder of Electric Western Records, will be spinning! Cover is just $5, so get ready to boogie with plenty of hip-twisting tunes and free beer!
Why: At this indie art and crafts ‘fest, check out the wares of over 65 artists, participate in DIY how-tos, and peruse vintage clothing and other goodies. Raffles and swag bags are also up for grabs, so get there early!
Why: Score up to 80% off on goodies from Wildfox, Sass & Bide, Cameo, Mr. Kate, and more!
Why: You’ll be feelin’ nostalgic for your own confused suburban rebellion while watching this acclaimed documentary. The film tracks a group of teens in a small SoCal town, skateboarding aimlessly through adolescence. Today, see the premiere at Violet Crown Cinema with co-director Elizabeth Mims! Tickets are still available for screenings with Mims this weekend, so snatch yours up now!
Why: Tomorrow night, DJ Selecta’ Scream, DJ Cavallero, and JR Ska Boss will be spinning the best throwback tunes: Northern soul, funk, reggae, and British mod, to get you in the mood to break it down. The best part? It’s free!
Why: Tonight, score a seat to a special screening of the latest episode of Portlandia and an exclusive sneak peek at the new animated series Out There. All hysterics are organic, locally grown, and free with RSVP.
Why: Too-cool-for-school eyewear brand Warby Parker has been driving cross-country in a refurbished school bus outfitted as your favorite old-school library, complete with wood paneling, vintage paperbacks, and a selection of their geek-chic eyewear options. Stop by from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to shop and get a little reading done!
Why: This isn’t your grandma’s bingo game. Originally created in London, Rebel Bingo is a weirdo, adrenaline-infused combination of a bingo game/dance party/concert and DJ set, and tomorrow night, they’re celebrating their launch in the O.C.! Tickets are going fast, so be sure to snap ‘em up to get in on the game!
