Music Video: My Gold Mask
The tambourine is the unsung hero of the music world.
Think of your favorite song–especially if you’re into anything that makes you dance, makes you involuntarily start clapping along, or was birthed in the ’60s–and it probably has a little bit of tambourine in there.
Chicago duo My Gold Mask use it to great effect in “Burn Like The Sun,” off of their new album Leave Me Midnight. It’s throwback rock–in that Wall of Sound way–with a bit of bite and the shake of a tambourine. And in the music video for the track, which we’ve got the exclusive premiere of, you get to see bandmatesĀ Gretta Rochelle and Jack Armondo do some serious shaking. The end result is a video that’s a little trippy, a little creepy, but also really pretty. And if it doesn’t have you shouting, “More tambourine!” at the end? Well, we can’t help with that. –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS

Music is great but sadly cheapened by the hipster ‘my 8yr old made this video on iMovie’ lameness. It definitely weakens the song and would be better off without it, even somehow making the incredibly lovely Gretta very unpalatable indeed. A powerpoint of landscapes would work better than this, can’t wait to see them live where they truly shine!
