She might not have come away with an award (in fact, she wasn’t even nominated–weird, right?), but Sky Ferreira definitely won our Best Dressed nod at last night’s NME Awards.

Sure, she could have gone the dressy route–but when you’re attending a show that has categories like “Villain of the Year” and honors bands like Pussy Riot, you’re best off leaving the gown at home. Instead, Ferreira went for the classic rock’n'roll look, reminding us why we still love it after all these years. (And it’s not just us–it was a major trend we spotted during fall ’13 New York Fashion Week.)

And though the equation is simple, it’s somehow easy to get really, really wrong. So the key to the singer’s look? It’s all about the bad girl staples, like a leather jacket, leopard print top, and wedge boots (smokey eye makeup doesn’t hurt, either).
