Back in 2009, when Surfer Blood were just a buzz band making their CMJ debut, I described them as, “Vampire Weekend, if they traded Cape Cod for Palm Beach (and jammed to Weezer way more).”

Well, it seems like for their upcoming sophomore album, Pythons (out June 11), they’ve been listening to way, way more Weezer–at least, they have if their new single “Demon Dance” is any indication.

This three-minute power-pop gem could have been a Blue Album b-side, if only Rivers Cuomo delivered fewer lines about Buddy Holly and more about Pentecostal fires on Sundays (and also had a little bit of a thing for honky-tonk country and screamo–weird combo, I know, but it’s all there).
