Two things surprised us about this Jessica Alba photo. One, it was snapped at a signing for her new book The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You–and who knew she was an author?! Two, why don’t we pair orange and olive together more often?

Because the combination here–green pants, tangerine jacket, with neutral khaki accents–is really working for her. It’s bright without being in-your-face, cool without feeling so edgy that you couldn’t meet your parents wearing it, and comfortable without being a glorified pair of pajamas. And while we can’t all be authors–at least, not yet–working this color duo is actually surprisingly easy. Even if you can’t afford the statement bag, here’s how to take a page from the actress-slash-author:
