Plaid often gets dubbed preppy, but the thing about the checker print is that it doesn’t always have to look like you’re dressing for the country club (or, you know, ironically dressing for the country club).
Actress Rebecca Hall proves that much with the outfit she wore to the Broadcasting Press Guild TV and Radio awards in London last night. The black-on-black plaid, for one thing, injects the classic pattern with a bit of edginess. Then there’s the fact that it’s satin, instead of tweed or wool. Add in a shaggy haircut and you’ve got a winning outfit–literally, since Hall walked away with the Best Actress statue for her work in the UK TV series Parade’s End.
