When we hear “Katie Holmes,” we immediately think “Joey Potter”–which, stylistically speaking, means overalls and cardigans. (Weren’t the late ’90s great?!)

And yet, the actress has evolved way past that. She now has her own line, Holmes & Yang, and certainly has a closet way more enviable than Dawson’s BFF. Take this outfit she was spotted wearing in New York City this week: It’s cool without being too avant-garde, feminine without being too girly. And proof that, yes, peplums can work off the runway.

While we’re still looking for our Dawson (or, if we’re being totally honest, Pacey), we did track down very similar pieces–including the exact pair of coated jeans Holmes is rocking:
