candyIf you love candy as much as we do, you need more than just a few Skittles to fulfill your sugar cravings.

In that case, these coasters might make you very hungry… but at least they won’t give you a cavity.

Besides looking really cute in your kitchen, your mom would be super happy to see you’re being a responsible adult and not leaving rings on the table.

They would also make pretty cool party decor and a great gift for Katy Perry.

Designed by Brooklyn-based artist Steph Mantis, the coasters are made with resin so the candy looks slightly illuminated and super fresh.

Mantis also makes pizza coasters for all you Pepperoni Lovers.

Check them out here, and then go satisfy that sweet tooth.

In Celebration of World Gin Day, Hendrick’s Presents A Survey of Gin Through the Centuries

James Bond seduces femme fatales over a lethal martini — shaken, not stirred. From the pages of Dickens’s David Copperfield, Mr. Micawber convinces himself that things will get better while preparing his special spiced punch.  F. Scott Fitzgerald pens Jay Gatsby roaring through the Twenties downing rickeys and slings. The greatest characters in literature tend to be great drinkers and their favourite tipple? Gin.

From humble origins in the 17th century to its stylish revival today, gin saturates popular culture. One of its earliest mentions is in the diary of the dyspeptic Samuel Pepys. A man of fashion and bon viveur, Pepys prided himself on being ahead of the trends sweeping his beloved and benighted London. On the 10th of October, 1663 he decides to try the very latest tipple which he’s told will cure his colic: “Sir J. Minnes and Sir W. Batten did advise me to take some juniper water.”

He does not record his hangover…

Win an Olek Art Piece!

Sunday, May 20th, 2012

Picture 11 While normally reserved for statues of bulls on Wall street, or excavators in Katowice, or even entire barn houses in Oregon, we are down-right smitten today to announce the utterly unprecedented opportunity to attain an original installation from one of contemporary art’s most curious little treasures — Olek– as she has done the unthinkable and transformed one of Hendrick’s Artist’s Boxes into a one-of-a-kind, crochet masterpiece!  One which you may win with a mere swipe of your keys.

“A loop after a loop. Hour after hour her madness becomes crochet. Life and art are inseparable.”

Olek was born Agata Oleksiak in Poland and graduated from Adam Mickiewicz University with a degree in cultural studies. In New York, she rediscovered her ability to crochet and, since then, has started her crocheted journey. Olek believes she chose crocheting as her artistic method to be able to do two things at once: to watch movies and make art.

Résumé sniffers may be pleased to know Olek’s work has been presented in galleries from Brooklyn to Harlem, to Istanbul to Venice, Poland and Brazil, featured in The New York Times, Fiberarts Magazine, The Village Voice, and The Washington Post and drags a tail of dance performance sets and costumes too numerous to mention. Her work changes from place to place. With a miner’s work ethic, she longs to delve deeper and deeper into her investigations.

Now all that’s left to do to secure your chance at winning this most extraordinary prize is to CLICK HERE!

PostImperialShaker.Full1.web

In a world that speeds up more and more with each passing second, a courageous few – and we count you among them — find it satisfying to see people take the time to do things the proper (albeit often slightly more complex) way, and Benjamin Cowden’s “Post Imperial Shaker” is exactly the type of spectacle of which we speak!

Based on a turn-of-the-century machine called an “Imperial Shaker,” the device you see in the video uses a flywheel driven by a hand-crank, pushing a crank-slider (or pivoting piston.) At the end of the crank-slider there’s a carriage where two cocktail shakers live. The elliptical motion produced by the crank-slider lends itself to mixing cocktails, as the ingredients are swirled horizontally as well as vertically.

It goes without saying (but we’ll take this moment to do so, as you know how we feel about shortcuts) that this contraption would almost certainly mix best with a gin that is as peculiar as it is well crafted. That gin being Hendrick’s, of course! So, with that in mind, we leave you with a link to a few most unusual concoctions from the fine quaffers at Hendrick’s.

Drew Barrymore and Shepard Fairey Made a Wine

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

DrewBarrymorePinotGrigioAlcoholicDrinkIn one of the weirder celeb pairings, screen siren Drew Barrymore and political artist Shepard Fairey have gotten together…

To make wine.

Made from Italian grapes, the pinot grigio sells for $20, and already won an award from Le Challenge International du Vin (it’s a French accolade, in case you couldn’t tell).

The wine label was created by Fairey to reflect Barrymore’s family crest, and features Drew’s tiny signature on the side.

We haven’t tasted the vino yet, but we’re sure it would be great at a party, along with M.I.A.’s new special edition of Beck Beer.

(Another interesting taste test: Stack up this wine against those by Francis Ford Coppola’s vineyard, and have a Hollywood dynasty drink-off!)

Nicki

Check out Nicki Minaj in her new role as Pepsi brand ambassador.  We’re actually loving the rose gold leggings and tie-dye purple sneakers.  (And we’re kind of wishing for a Nicki-designed rose gold and tie-dye purple Pepsi can.)  Thoughts?

dYou’ve heard of Spin The Bottle.

But what about Spin the Bottle Opener?

It doesn’t involve kissing in a basement, but you are making a gamble when you flick this metal pointer; whomever it lands on is responsible for buying the next round at the bar.

It’s kind of a genius idea, though not a new one.

The design came from an early 1900s vintage piece; apparently, people have had trouble deciding who pays for a hundred years.

It deters those “I got this one” fights, opens your imported bottles, and is about the size of a lipstick (and fits on a keychain!).

would you drink pb&j vodka?

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

dsWe like peanut butter and bananas.

And peanut butter and honey.

And, obviously, peanut butter and jelly.

But what happens with the childhood staple gets a adults-only kick?

Van Gogh Vodka has just debuted a new PB&J flavor, which is inspired by classic peanut butter sandwiches and raspberry jelly (Why raspberry? According to the company, that’s what tasted best with the PB they used…)

We’re always hesitant when alcohol brands attempt to transform our favorite foods into vodka- they’ve already done it with cake and cupcakes- but perhaps we’ll give it a shot.

How about you?
