LeSportsac Tries To Tag

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Presenting the latest attempt at viral marketing:

LeSportsac “tagging” lamp posts all over lower Manhattan with giant advertisements / stickers.

We’re not quite sure what to make of this craziness, but here are some thoughts:

1.  New York City must be making a ton of money off this legal graffiti.

2.   That LeSportSac print being unzipped is really, really cute.

3.  How many people are actually going to look down at the street to see this ad?

More on this tres important story as it develops.

And now, back to watching our podcasts on iTunes.

xoxo.

And David Byrne also makes bike racks?!

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

The  musician illustrated several bike racks inspired by eight distinct neighborhoods of Manhattan and Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

Through the collaboration of the Department of Transportation and PaceWildenstein art gallery, his ideas have come to life!

How cute is the red heel bike rack (rightfully planted at Bergdorf Goodman)?

The New York Times did a great piece about the project, which you can read here.

Friday, August 8th, 2008

At left is a building you’ll see in Japan next year.

But whose building is it?

a)  The Contemporary Art Institute of Japan - it’s their new museum and also classrooms for their graduate studies departments.

b)  Virgin Records - they are starting a Japanese Pop division and wanted to make an impression.

c) Louis Vuitton - they wanted another flagship store.

d)  It’s a research hospital for heart transplants.

@ The Chelsea Hotel!

Monday, August 4th, 2008

HotelChelsea.jpgHey dudes!

My friend was visiting New York this weekend and checked in at the iconic artist residence Hotel Chelsea. You can feel chills right when you walk in the lobby.

You can really feel the lingering creativity left by some of the hotel’s past (in)famous tenants — those including Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Mark Twain, Stanley Kubrick, Ethan Hawke, Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, Deedee Ramones, John Cale, and tons of other influential artists.

The list goes on forever.

At any given time, you can expect to see a few famous faces, or a film crew -

Factory Girl was shot on location at The Chelsea, as was I Shot Andy Warhol and a ton of ad campaigns and fashion shoots.

Check out some pics! xx JINNIE

Getting trashed is looking pretty

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

The image “http://anycoloryoulike.biz/arp/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/location4_fallforweb.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.Hey dudes!! Looks like city garbage is getting a slight makeover. A friend just sent me a link to TRASH: anycoloryoulike, an art project movement that replaces ordinary black trash bags with those of colorful 100% biodegradable polka dot bags on the sidewalks of New York. It’s an attempt to bring awareness to consumption, waste, the environment, and art.

Store owners can purchase these at $10 a bag (expensive, yes, for garbage) but think how much good might come of the city if all waste bags were replaced with these less harsh, cuter biodegradable ones. It’s definitely a creative step in the right direction. JINNIE xx

Take a Bit Outta Crime

Did you know it’s Shark Week?  Us either.  Basically, this means you get to run around with a silly hat on your head.  This hat will not prevent you from getting eaten by a shark.  But checking with a lifeguard before you swim will.
