Frozen Ring Pop

Friday, May 17th, 2013

I’m sure you’re already aware of our nostalgic fondness for Eighties Ring Pop candy and that you can remember our utter excitement when we found out that the bakers at Flour Shop had made a Ring Pop out of cake, well (drum roll please), we are now even more excited to announce that we have discovered a third member of the Ring Pop family: the frozen ring pop!

Simply purchase this set of six ice-pop molds shaped like gemstones, fill with your favorite juice and freeze before wearing on your finger like a ring. This is taking the meaning of finger food to whole new level and we’re really into it. -ELSA DE BERKER

Get The Picture

Considering we’re into Destiny’s Child, Lisa Frank, Game Boy, and anything else that reminds us of the ’90s, it should come as no surprise that we’ve really been missing the days of disposable cameras.

Enter Dispose, a monthly publication that asks “contributors to document one day in 27 exposures. From the time they wake up to the time they go to sleep, these individuals shoot a minimum of one photo per hour including one self portrait.”

Each issue features four different photo diaries from various parts of the world. And this month, our very digital art director Nick Bloom-Scaglione is one of the four! “I was nervous I was going to have a boring day and have nothing to shoot,” Nick told us. “But through the process, you realize that mundane things that you see everyday and normally might not notice make for interesting photos.”

Check out Nick’s photos, and three other featured photo diaries, in the latest issue of Dispose (here!).  –ALI HOFFMAN

Fact: These are not real diamonds.

They are, in fact, the latest novelty in the frozen world.

My suggestion? Whip out the food coloring or juice and make yourself some sapphires, emeralds and rubies to complete the six-piece sparkly set. But don’t be sad when they melt–these diamonds are not the forever kind. -ELSA DE BERKER

mallane

Sometimes it takes a good eye to spot a new talent.

Case in point: Alice + Olivia recently introducing us to upcoming fashion photographer, Mallane Stanbury.

Stanbury’s eye-catching photographs focus on behind-the-scenes of fashion week, capturing the true spirit of backstage beauty and prep. Her work could be termed as installation pieces, with bright neon lights surrounding her picture perfect photographs, taking them from beautiful to outright incredible.

Of her work, Stanbury says, “my eye is drawn to women, visual decadence, interior design; I dream of photographing Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg in their heyday”.

Keep your eye on this one. -AOIFE BYRNE

When was the last time you sucked on Saturn? Nope, didn’t think so. What about solar winds or a Nebula Cloud? You never have? There’s a first time for everything: Designer Lollipop is the brainchild of digital designer-slash-lollipop-lover, Priscilla. Her edible invention lets you do just that: lick a planet.

So great was Priscilla’s love of far out planets, monsters eyeballs, and starry nights that she felt the urge to eat them as lollipops, and for that, we can only thank her. -ELSA DE BERKER

Good Idea or Bad Idea: The Social Petwork?

Monday, May 6th, 2013

social petwork
You know those people who only Instagram pics of their dog? Okay, fine, I’m one of them. I haven’t gone as far as to create a separate account for my dog (you can call him Woody), but that’s only because I’m already switching back and forth between my personal account and NYLON’s Instagram, and adding another one into the mix would just get way too crazy.

Plus, I just heard about My Social Petwork, which may be the perfect answer to my paw-blem (sorry, I really had to).

The soon-to-be launched site is basically an entire Facebook-like network for your dog, cat, hamster, ferret–you get the point. Not only can you set up a profile, post pics, but you can also organize pooch play dates and casual critter rendezvous.

Brilliant idea or total waste of time? Let us know! -ALI HOFFMAN

Food Trip!

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

It seems like there are new ways to go green every Earth Day. We’re obviously not talking about our wardrobe color scheme, but rather the choices that we can make to be more environmentally conscious on a day-to-day basis. This year is no different, and in honor of Mother Earth–and people who spend a lot of time on the road but would rather not order off of McDonald’s dollar menu, a new app has been developed to make it that much easier for us to go green.

Food Tripping, an app from SHFT.com (co-founded by Entourage eye-candy Adrian Grenier, who also helped develop FT) and Ford, was developed to serve as a pocket guide to the closest fresh and local food around you. Whether you’re hitting the road for a festival this summer, on the road touring with your band, or just scoping out new territory in your neighborhood, Food Tripping provides more than 50,000 “good food” options ranging anywhere from juice joints to vegan restaurants for when you’re on-the-go (which is almost always.) Appropriately launching today for Earth Day, the app also asks users for their input for places to add to their long list of microbreweries, organic markets, wineries, and dining spots.

Which means that your favorite juice bar might just get a visit from Grenier the next time he hits the road–or your personal entourage the next time your crew gets hungry. Get the app for free for your Android, iPhone, or iPad devices! –TAYLOR IRWIN

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Wine Wipes?

Monday, April 15th, 2013

wine

Fact: We loved the wine-stained lip at Marni’s fall ’13 show.

But wine-stained teeth? yeah, that’s one we will always say never to. Apparently, Urban Outfitters agrees with us on the matter–The latest edition to hit their beauty counter: Wine Wipes!

Intended to prevent the impending embarrassment that usually follows a glass of red, these wipes only require a quick wipe of the teeth and–viola!–your smile will no longer resemble a row of old bricks. But would you actually want to carry this in  your purse? And will it be tricky to find a time to casually swipe your smile?

You decide and let us know in the comments! And order a pack here ($7) -ALI HOFFMAN

Cake Out

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

FYI, those aren’t Cantonese noodles in that Chinese takeout box! And the box isn’t really a paper box. Amirah, the  pastry chef and owner of Flour Shop, is the genius behind this crazy dessert. It’s a wafer cake with frosting noodles and chocolate broccoli! If you’re wondering the same thing we were: yes, we’re totally counting this as a vegetable serving.

What will she think of next? Click here to see Flour Shop’s “Ring Pop Cake” on NYLONmag.com.—RAY SIEGEL
