Winter Whites

olympus

Two things that normally come in black just got a major bleach-job.

On the left, check out Moleskine’s first-ever white notebook. Considering our recent obsession with all things white leather, this little notebook had us at hello. We love the fresh blank-canvas appearance–particularly in the winter, and also because it looks so nice on our white desks. (Get it here!)

On the right is the new Olympus E-PL5, and  interchangeable lens digital camera, which I happened to get my hands on just in time for New York Fashion Week. It comes in black, silver, and white (I obviously picked the latter), and is freakishly light, which was a huge plus when running from one show to the next. It has a crazy-fast touch screen that miraculously focuses on your subject instantaneously, and the color reproduction is incredible considering the camera’s chic little size. The best part? The camera comes with a self portrait LCD screen which rotates 170 degrees– meaning you can take selfies that aren’t just a picture of you standing  in front of a mirror.  (Get it here!) -ALI HOFFMAN

The Tamagotchi Returns

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

tama

If you know us at all, our obsession with all things’90s shouldn’t come as a shocker (recent proof: our debate over Troll Doll earrings, our love of Babysitter’s Club fashion, and, everything relating to Full House…duh).

But when it comes to the Tamagotchi making a comeback? Now that’s just crazy talk.

According to NPR, the weird electronic mousey pet is indeed resurfacing, only this time the already virtual pet is getting even more virtualized: It’s now an app.

Aside from now being in color, the app is pretty much exactly like it was back when it hung from a zipper on your Kipling backpack. It still needs food, it’s still annoying, and it still dies. But it’s also still kind of amazing. Get it here! –ALI HOFFMAN

Free People Pups

pup

Just when you thought there wasn’t anything left to dip-dye, Free People goes ahead and takes it just one step further by bringing doggie accesories into the equation.

The surprising part: We’re totally into it, which is pretty crazy considering we thought we were over the gradient color phase of life.

But is it cute enough to go and get a dog (for those of you who are pup-less)? Well, that might be pushing it. -ALI HOFFMAN

That Time Karlie Kloss Fed Us On The Street

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

The Jeremy Scott show is usually a scene–last year one of our editors got trampled by a certain supermodel rushing to her seat–but today’s was a scene for an entirely different reason: Karlie Kloss pulled up in a truck to pass out her Karlie’s Kookies. (Yes, that’s “cookies” in model-speak.)

The model-turned-It Girl-turned TV host was casually conversing with pedestrians, informing them about her dairy-free, gluten-free cookies. Even better than being fed by a model? Learning that all proceeds from her cookies go to providing 10 school meals to hungry children around the world. (That’s her with Feed Projects’ Lauren Bush.)

The only downside to standing around on the street instead of on a runway? “Yeah, I’m freezing!” admitted Kloss, who was wearing just a pair of jeans, a hoodie, and an apron. Surely a designer can give her a jacket…right?! –LYNETTE PEREZ

Caption This: Lena Dunham + Taylor Swift

lena

Just when we thought we were done talking about The Grammys, we stumbled upon this picture of Lena Dunham and Taylor Swift and we just about died.

What the hell is going on here? What could these two people possibly be talking about?! One is our favorite artist and the other is our future best friend.

Rebecca thinks they’re having “girl talk,” and Dunham is possibly suggesting Adam as the bassist for Swift’s next single.
Josh thinks Dunham’s telling Swift that “We Are Never Getting Back Together” changed her life.
And I think she’s asking Swift to dance.

Okay, now it’s your turn… Caption this!

We Love This Photo, NYFW Day Four Edition

Alexander Porter/BFAnyc.com

Since we can’t save you a seat at every fashion show and after-party, we’re giving you a peek into what happens off the runway during New York Fashion Week through our favorite photos from the weekend.

Spotted: Chloe Sevigny at her Opening Ceremony presentation.

Doing: Modeling the clothes–with a little political statement thrown in.

We Love This Photo Because: The It Girl who got her big break with Kids is holding up a sign that says “Time To Have Sex.” Enough said.

We Love This Photo of Lena Dunham (And Ben Affleck)

Monday, February 4th, 2013

Of all the award shows, the DGA Awards–that would be Director’s Guild Awards–tend to get the quietest fanfare. And we totally get it: Wouldn’t you rather watch, say, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler throw out jokes than sit through a ceremony featuring mostly old white dudes who are always behind the camera?

But this year’s DGA Awards got a little more interesting, thanks to Lena Dunham. The 26-year-old won the DGA Award for “directorial achievement” in a comedy series for the pilot episode of Girls, which is pretty awesome in of itself. But that’s not our favorite thing from the night….

Breakfast of Champions

breakfast of champions

Though I love leisurely brunching on the weekends, my weekday breakfast usually consists of a granola bar (which I usually toss in my purse and end up forgetting about anyway).

But the “Sunnyside” fried-egg shaper might just be the one thing I need to change my eating habits all together.

Call me crazy, but this little guy seems like an automatic mood-enhancer too (which come 8am Monday morning, I’m really going to need).

Order yours here ($11.99)!

P.S. I tried to write this entire port without saying “egg-celent”… I guess I just failed.

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Troll Earrings?

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

troll

Apparently, today is Troll Day.

First, we spotted troll leggings on today’s Band Crush, Kitty Pryde.
And now these furry-haired Troll earrings just popped up at Urban Outfitters.

Created in 1959 by a Danish woodcutter, these gremlin-like guys have remained popular for a while now– and for good reason.
But would you want them hanging from your earlobes? That’s what we’re wondering.

Check out the full range here and let us know if you’re game…

The BeyHive

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

Beyoncé’s new subscribers only website (don’t worry–it’s free) The BeyHive went live yesterday and we’ve had a chance to look it over. All of it. It’s like her Tumblr times one thousand. In addition to learning about every single thing that Beyoncé herself is reading, watching, and eating—which is thrilling for us—you’ll also find a section of the site showcasing  street style through the eyes of her stylist. Um, we love this woman.

There’s one more part we think you’ll love: It’s an area of the site dedicated solely to the work of her fans. We can’t help but think that Beyoncé loves us as much as we love her. Click here to subscribe to the Hive.—RAY SIEGEL
