At the Ballet

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Spain’s sent America a lot of cool Spanish imports, including Penelope Cruz, Bottega Venetta, Mango, and tapas (okay, it’s not fashion-related, but it’s still awesome).

Now comes Pretty Ballerinas, the shoe company launching in the US next month.

With a strict mission to make flats as cute as possible, the shoe company has everything from standard black - silver / pink ballet slippers to stripes, flowers, and special-edition shoes in dotted swiss lace or rainbow leather (see left).

In fact, the only thing that isn’t cool about this label is its actual name. But we can let that go.

“Pretty Ballerinas” may be a sappy title for a shoe company, but it doesn’t make us any less interested in trying on their stuff.

Bunnies Take Over the World…

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Uh-oh.

Check out Jessica Lowndes from 90210 rocking her Fifi Lapin t-shirt.

So it’s not enough this little bunny is on TopShop greeting cards, Forever 21 sweats, LeSportsac bags, and the internet?

Now it also needs to be on t-shirts from Delia*s?!

You can buy it for $26.50 online.

And it’s cute and pink and adorable, but just know -

Wearing this little bunny just makes it one step closer to total world domination.

I Saw Sparks

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Lulu Guinness has shown the world how to make a prim-and-proper handbag into something tart and sassy.

Now she’s going a step further and adding some achingly hip neon into the mix.

Check out her signature lipstick clutch, redesigned in lemon and hot pink leather.

The same shape as the classic original -

But now with some Nu Rave punch.

You can score it this Spring in Lulu’s many boutiques!

Mac by Marc Jacobs

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Last month, we showed you the Mulberry x Mac collaboration, including their iPhone case and crazy pink leopard  print laptop sleeve.

Today, we have the new arrivals on Net-a-Porter, including a Marc x Mac collaboration… with a crazy pink leopard print laptop sleeve.

This one is cloth instead of plastic, though, and runs you $68 total.

It also matches Marc’s Spring ‘10 prints, meaning there’s a slight chance that your computer will match your pencil skirt, your leggings, or your sneakers.

Oh, it’s just too much!

It’s All About Sole

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Earlier this year, we interviewed Steve Madden.

But now, you can be him.

The footwear king (admit it, you’ve got a few pairs of Steve Maddens shoes in your closet) teamed up with Zappos to launch the Sole Search contest.

From now through December 29, aspiring Maddens can pitch their designs to the man himself, with the chance to get their pair produced.

So far, the designs range from the wearable to the weird (think pastel pink, polka dots, and bows), but there’s got to be a NYLON reader out there who can come up with the ultimate shoe for spring.

Just promise you’ll name it after us, okay?

Days and Confused

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Stella McCartney fans know she’s worshiped for two things:

Eco-friendly sweater dresses and days of the week underwear.

But her adult sets of Monday-Sunday panties cost almost $200.

Those looking for something more adventurous - and also really cute - might consider these Stella briefs for boys.

Sold in sets of seven at The Gap - for $38! - the underwear is 100% cotton, features crazy crayon scribbles on the back, and comes in size XXL - that’s about a size four if you’re a grown woman.

You can buy them at Gap’s online store.

Now Stella x Gap, when is that military jacket coming out?!

Goldies But Goodies

Friday, November 13th, 2009

There’s a French Connection down the street from the NYLON office, which gives us plenty of time to window shop - and lately, we’ve been doing that a lot.

It’s mostly due to this gold sheath, called The Rainbow Dress, which brings to mind several things:

1. Sienna Miller’s metallic Burberry frock at the 2007 Costume Institute Ball

2. The backup singer outfits from The Supremes.

3. The Angel on top of the Christmas tree.

Which is kind of perfect, since - as Rebecca pointed out last night as we skipped into our third party of the evening - people are actually feeling the holiday spirit this season, and lots of parties have already been scheduled.

Maybe this dress needs to make an appearance at a few of them?

Bamboo Fabric - The Exploration Continues

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Today in the Wall Street Journal, Christina Binkley does a nice job investigating the claims that bamboo fabric is bad for the environment.

We already checked out this issue last year, when we spotted a bamboo-made dress on a favorite fashion website, and sort of freaked out- in a bad way.

Now the WSJ reveals more about how bamboo is cut, treated, dyed, and shaped into cloth, and what repercussions those  actions have on both the fabric and the planet.

They’ve even got photos from inside a “bamboo factory” which is pretty cool.

Read the story for yourself at WSJ.com.

Shine Control, Part II

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Yesterday, NYLON’s own Michelle Reneau explained how to wear a sequin dress and not look like a disco ball (or Lily Allen circa 2007).

Today, we’ve got another suggestion:

Keep it small.

Like, fits-inside-your-purse small.

This holiday season, Kipling got glitter crazy, adding sparkle to everything from tote bags to pencil cases.

And you’ll actually be able to hold something in that sequined wallet they’ve got, since all the pieces go for under $45.
