Good Idea or Bad Idea: The Social Petwork?

Monday, May 6th, 2013

social petwork
You know those people who only Instagram pics of their dog? Okay, fine, I’m one of them. I haven’t gone as far as to create a separate account for my dog (you can call him Woody), but that’s only because I’m already switching back and forth between my personal account and NYLON’s Instagram, and adding another one into the mix would just get way too crazy.

Plus, I just heard about My Social Petwork, which may be the perfect answer to my paw-blem (sorry, I really had to).

The soon-to-be launched site is basically an entire Facebook-like network for your dog, cat, hamster, ferret–you get the point. Not only can you set up a profile, post pics, but you can also organize pooch play dates and casual critter rendezvous.

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Wine Wipes?

Monday, April 15th, 2013

wine

Fact: We loved the wine-stained lip at Marni’s fall ’13 show.

But wine-stained teeth? yeah, that’s one we will always say never to. Apparently, Urban Outfitters agrees with us on the matter–The latest edition to hit their beauty counter: Wine Wipes!

Intended to prevent the impending embarrassment that usually follows a glass of red, these wipes only require a quick wipe of the teeth and–viola!–your smile will no longer resemble a row of old bricks. But would you actually want to carry this in  your purse? And will it be tricky to find a time to casually swipe your smile?

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Lanvin Screwdriver

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

lanvin

Confession: I don’t know the difference between a Slotted screwdriver and a Phillips head. Please don’t judge me.

That said, I just spent a good three minutes staring at this magical rainbow effect screwdriver by Lanvin. But let’s face it, $495 seems a bit ridiculous for what I would probably just use as a really cute keychain–and rarely/never for its actual purpose. Is it even worth it for someone who would actually utilize its handy function? I don’t know. But anything that appears reminiscent of  a perfect piece of sea-glass, a really rare tropical fish, or, yes, a double rainbow, will always have my full attention.

Good Idea Or Bad Idea: Scented Macaroon Purse?

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

macaroon

OH MY ELLE WOODS! Imagine a scratch-and-sniff sticker had a baby with our favorite french cookie, the macaroon, and ta-da! Meet the Scented Macaroon Coin Purse.

A wild idea, we know. Take a breath. Wait until your head stops spinning.

Okay, ready? So here’s what we’re thinking: The upside is pretty obvious. It’s pretty much Marie Antoinette meets Lisa Frank, with a splash of the Legally Blonde heroine herself, Ms. Elle Woods (“It’s pink…And it’s scented”). Wow, this is a smoothie of girly perfection.

The downside? We fear the smell will just make us wish we had an actual macaroon (preferably one from Ladurée). And what if the weird, dirty metal smell of coins combines with sweet, frutti-tutti scent of the purse? That doesn’t sound to good.

Help us? What’s your verdict on this cookie pouch? ($14 here) - ALI HOFFMAN

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Marnie’s Plastic Dress

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

Prepare for a spoiler alert if you haven’t already caught up on last night’s episode of Girls…but Marnie Michaels wore a gold, plastic dress for two reasons that we could come up with: to avoid looking “basic”or “too cute” and to impress her new famous artist boyfriend and his cool friends.

Other than the fact that her dress was difficult to move in–it made for a less than graceful exit after her “boyfriend” clued her in that they were just sleeping together and not, in fact, actually dating–would you wear it? Do you think her look was futurist art-party cool? Or weird and lame?

And what was up with her blatant lie of a phone call to Hannah-post party telling her that everything was just swell. Would you be too embarrassed to let your friend know that the person you thought was your boyfriend turned out not to be? We’ve been on both ends of that phone call and let’s just say it’s always better to talk it out. That’s said, let’s talk it all out in the comments section below.—RAY SIEGEL

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Audrey’s Headbands

Monday, February 4th, 2013

“Where do you get your headbands?” Marni asked Audrey (her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend) in our favorite line of episode four of Girls. But it’s a good question: What is with this girl’s never-ending Coachella gear?

That leaves us with two more questions: Would you wear such a headband to a dinner party? And even more important: Who do you think Charlie would be better off dating?—RAY SIEGEL

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Troll Earrings?

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

troll

Apparently, today is Troll Day.

First, we spotted troll leggings on today’s Band Crush, Kitty Pryde.
And now these furry-haired Troll earrings just popped up at Urban Outfitters.

Created in 1959 by a Danish woodcutter, these gremlin-like guys have remained popular for a while now– and for good reason.
But would you want them hanging from your earlobes? That’s what we’re wondering.

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Pink Eye

Friday, January 11th, 2013

Don’t worry, we’re not talking conjunctivitis. We saw hot pink eyeshadow backstage at Fashion Week on Chris Benz‘ models, but last night at the Critics Choice Awards, Elle Fanning brought the trend to life. We loved it even more than her Chanel dress.

If you’re dying to test out this look (we already are) here’s one option from Nyx, a deep hot pink by Illamasqua, or try this Nars blush on your eyes.

Are you into it or do you hate it? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.—RAY SIEGEL

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Pill Purse

Monday, December 3rd, 2012

If Damian Hirst’s latest collaboration with The Row doesn’t make for a good conversation starter then we’re at a loss.

Good idea: If you do require your daily dose this croc backpack serves as an ideal, visible reminder.

Bad idea: Every person you come into contact with will either shun you for outwardly being an addict or ask you to spare a Xanax.

Bad idea again: It’s the most expensive prescription money can buy—this accessory will cost you $50,000. Really.

But seriously, would you showcase your medication on your back(pack)?—RAY SIEGEL
