Good Idea or Bad Idea: Dirty Word Shirts

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

fuck

A lot of these tops would have gotten us 8th Grade Detention.  Have times changed enough that we can / should wear them loud and proud?  Or should we stick to subtle swears, like this F-Word ring from Jacqui Faiche Jewelry.

Daydreamer LA zombie sweatshirt, $50
Obesity + Speed society tee, $62
Oak NYC Paris tank, $38

Good Idea or Bad Idea? Give me a “J”!

Monday, June 11th, 2012

jil sander varsityThe varsity trend is very much alive and kicking and I still think it’s adorable.

However none of the designer varsity varieties have come in a ‘J’ for “Jazzi” until now.

So my first thought when I saw this Jil Sander sweater was “OMG! A sweater with my inital!? It’s fate!” Sure, the ‘J’ in question, is obviously for Jil, but you get the idea.

Then I saw the $1,660 price tag and bowed my head in defeat. Foiled again.

Now, I’d take an “N” in NYLON pink, Faran would settle for a “D” for Duke or an “A” because it’s classic, but I’m left wondering… if not me, January Jones or our lovely intern Joelle, who is going to buy this Jil Sander sweater?

And I’d really like to know: would you buy varsity-wear with initials other than your own first, last name, or some other letter of note?

And should $1600 at least get you the option to personalize with your initial of choice? Or, alphabet aside, is the novelty (or irony) enough?

Good Idea or Bad Idea: The Bracelet Key

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

bracelet-keyNo matter how many Post-it notes we stick on the fridge or reminders we set in our phones, somehow we still manage to forget our keys.

In other words, we think this new bracelet key would be pretty convenient. Designed by Kim Ji Soo, Kim Jeongmin and Chung Boogun, the bangle is made of silicon, and one end is shaped into a shaft that pops out and fits right into your door.

It would also look pretty cute stacked on your wrist with a bunch of other bands, and since you’ve got a choice of green, yellow orange or turquoise, it’d probably make sense to invest in more than one (if you have a car or a mailbox, too).

Our only problem with the idea: if you’re the type to constantly lose your accessories, someone else will probably find it, leaving you locked out and a random stranger with a key to your apartment. And you’ll be one bracelet short of an arm party.

You can’t buy these anywhere yet (although the concept received a red dot award for design), but you can still check them out and let us know what you think!

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Glazed Donut Vodka

Wednesday, June 6th, 2012

donut2We remember the first time we had a sip of real alcohol and thought “Gross! How do people drink this stuff!?”…

Things have changed a bit since our 8 year old experimentation, but had that first sip tasted like this new “Glazed Donut” flavored vodka we may have been in trouble.

The new 360 Vodka didn’t make our list of Best Donuts in America, so we want to know: is this vodka a great idea or enough to make you toss your cookies?

PS – They also make a “Double Chocolate” vodka which gives you a whole new way to get “chocolate wasted!”

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Flavored Envelopes?

Tuesday, June 5th, 2012

fl
Created by a husband & wife duo,
Flavorlopes hope to “reinvent the envelope with a flavorful experience.”

In addition a wide range of fruity flavors,
the company also offers a selection of “Seasonal Lopes” (e.g. Candy Corn, Egg Nog, etc.).

Curious to test these out or already shaking your head in protest?
Check them out here.

P.S. “…and its scented, it gives it a little something extra don’t you think?”- Elle Woods

good idea or bad idea: big wig

Friday, June 1st, 2012

asos-wigWe’re 4 months away from Halloween, but ASOS is now selling wigs.

Not just any wigs, Annabelle’s “professional quality wigs, crafted from the finest synthetic fibres” – with roots!

These pre-dip dyed ombre wigs (in the style of Gaga, Azealia, Kelly O., Lisa Frank, et al.) envoke the proverbial “good idea or bad idea?”

Is this a convenient way to test-drive a trendy hairdo or one click away from actually paying for a bad hair day?

The world (well, our office) wants to know.

Good Idea or Bad Idea: “The Devil Wears Prada” 2

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

devilBreak out your cerulean sweaters:

Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs are coming back.

Today, Entertainment Weekly announces the author Lauren Weisberger will release a sequel to TDWP called “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns.”

It’s slated for a Spring 2013 release, and follows Weisberger’s other three novels, “Everyone Worth Knowing,” “Chasing Harry Winston,” (voted “The Worst Book of the Year” by EW), and “Last Night at Chateau Marmont.”

TDWP was one of the Best Selling books of the decade, and the movie catapulted Hathaway to stardom – and arguably inspired a series of short-lived blogs about misfit fashion insiders.

No movie has been announced – yet.  Is Meryl up for the sequel or is this – like Mean Girls 2 – going straight to Basic Cable?

Good Idea or Bad Idea: A Bow Butt?

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

suitHere is a black swimsuit with one odd feature:

It’s got a giant gold bow applied like a Christmas Tree ornament on the rear end.

The swimsuit is a fairly modest one-piece, as long as you don’t mind showing off most of your back…

And also showing off your butt, thanks to its massive, shiny accessory?

Is this super cute, pool-perfect, and – for lack of a better word – cheeky?

Or is it usually a bad idea to take a black swimsuit (usually reserved for the more shy bathing beauties among us) and put a giant metallic present on the tooshie?

Also – wait – how do you sit down comfortably?

We’re torn.  If you’re not, the suit sells for $125 at Urban Outfitters.

(Double points if you wear it with white stilettos and Minnie Mouse ears.)

good idea or bad idea: madame alexander on gilt

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

madame alexander

Madame Alexander dolls are on sale today at Gilt.

We didn’t know many kids who played with them in our youth, but we remember plenty of creepy doll collections at their Grandma’s houses.

On the up side, we love dolls based on literary characters and literal baby doll dresses. On the down side, well, they come complete with that vacant gaze and may or may not pull a Chuckie on you in the night (click that link at your own risk)…

good idea or bad idea: paw art?

Meet the “Pawdicure”. Has the DIY nail art trend officially gone too far or would you give your French Bulldog a French manicure? Man might soon be losing its best friend…
