Thursday, April 10th, 2008Look what I found sitting around the office: a vintage NYLON mag from 2000! I had to do a double take…

>>Amber Valleta was our cover girl

>>We were telling you to wear plaids

>>August 2000? I was hangin’ out in 9th grade

>>Complete with a Carson Q&A… ah, old school TRL…
>>What else was hot in 2000?
The reality show Survivor debuted…
The 4th Harry Potter dropped (the book, not the movie)…
Missy Elliot: Hot Boyz… holla!
Russel Crowe was dominating in Gladiator…
No Doubt won Most Fashionable video for Ex-Girlfriend at the VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards…
>>What were you up to EIGHT years ago???

A couple months ago when I was still living in good ‘ol Tallahassee, FL, I was on a desperate search for red socks. Not for any particular occasion or reason, I just had a craving. I checked the obvious places: the mall, Target, even the dollar store, all with no results.
Thanks to an informative post on the Nylon website, I headed up to the Built by Wendy sample sale in Williamsburg this past Saturday.
Ever since I heard the magical words from the Fashion Assistant back in November, “Well, you have the internship!” All of my friends and family have asked the same question: “Is it going to be like Devil Wears Prada?”Up until Sunday, I’ve just had to shrug and respond “Don’t know, haven’t seen the movie.”But with most of the New York City exploring out of my system (I’m from a small town in FL), I took a Sunday evening in, with a big slice of Brooklyn pizza, and finally watched the flick (ok, so it was a big slice of pizza AND a bag of twizzlers…).So for the rest of you who might be wondering: Is an intern at Nylon Magazine treated like Andy from Devil Wears Prada? Let me clear the air: No! Sure, I make Starbucks runs (all on separate checks, of course), and yes I walk the dogs occasionally (that includes picking up poop)…But no body slams their over sized designer purse on my desk, I don’t run through the cobble streets of SoHo in stilletos, and no matter how hard I work, no body’s takin my ass to Paris. Everyone here is friendly enough for me to enjoy the office, and we even have a free table to snag excellent beauty samples from!Editor’s Note: If Caitlin didn’t write this post, we would have been forced to duct-tape her to her chair at night and lock her in the fashion closet…

Pre-internship, I thought I had the heads up on fashion because I constantly checked style.com and I read every fashion magazine I could get my hands on. But being immersed in this industry, in NYC, in the middle of SoHo, is very different than reading a Vogue in a Barnes and Noble in Tallahassee, FL.
