Met Ball: Party in the USA

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

Miley Cyrus was at the Met Ball. Aside from the extreme confusion as to how she managed to garner an invite to one of the most prestigious events in the fashion calendar, the real quandary on all our lips is how can we replicate her electrocuted hairstyle?

Enter Oribe, the hair super-stylist and one-time bad boy from Cuba who used Billy Idol as the inspiration for Miley’s spiked mop. Describing the look as ‘fearless, effortless, young and fantastic,’ Oribe shared with us his five easy steps to punk electro-perfecto:

1.     Flat iron dry hair with Original Pomade

2.     Spray with Dry Texturizing Spray at the roots for lift.

3.     Use hands to form spiked peaks in the hair

4.     Slick the sides back with Sculpting Cream

5.     Apply Rock Hard Gel to the tips of the hair for hold and, according to Oribe, ‘a little weirdness.’—ELSA DE BERKER.

Met Ball Makeup

Monday, May 6th, 2013

All of our favorite young actresses are getting ready for the Met Ball tonight—Emma Roberts just Instagrammed a mid-makeup prep selfie. And we got word from the friendly facialists at AmorePacific Spa that Nina Dobrev and Carey Mulligan both came in for facials today.

It’s getting us super excited for what’s to come: a whole new batch of new makeup trends. Given that this year’s gala is “punk” themed, we can assume many attendees are going to turn things up several notches when it comes to the beauty—our unopened black eyeliner pencils can hardly wait. So stay tuned to the site tomorrow for the breakdown of our favorite looks and, of course, our Best Dressed at the Met Ball roundup.—RAY SIEGEL

Crazy For Chloe

chloe

Guess who just stopped by the office for a surprise visit?

Yup, it’s little miss Chloe Norgaard, the queen of neon hair and ’90s throwback gold.

How damn cute does she look? We’re obsessed with her sunflower dress. And all of her jewelry (spot that alien necklace? Rad.). And, duh, her hair. And last but not least, her rainbow mani (see instagram closeup of this: @nylonmag).

So obsessed in fact that we might have just purchased this dress. Hope she doesn’t mind a copy-cat…. -ALI HOFFMAN

Manicurious: The Bling Ring

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

You guys, I really can’t wait much longer for The Bling Ring to come out. I’ve watched both trailers for the film countless times and at this point, I’m losing control of my life, I think. Anyway…

I did what any (normal?) girl would do: nail art based on the movie! What better way to capture the flashy, ridiculous, and “blingy” attitude of these girls (that’s not illegal)?

RiRi Remix

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Rihanna loves MAC, we love Rihanna and MAC, and you know we practically live for a good remix. What in the world are we talking about? Rihanna created a “ri ri ri remix” of her recently released MAC lipstick, ‘Ruby Woo.’ The newly remixed shade of red goes by the name ‘RiRi Woo’ and it’s every bit as bright as the first. Even though Bad Gal RiRi could be described as anything classic, you can’t argue that she’s a sucker for two of the girliest styles of all-time: diamonds and red lipstick.

Starting May 2nd, ‘RiRi Woo’ will be available at Maccosmetics.com or at the Barclays Center MAC pop-up shop for concert ticket holders.—RAY SIEGEL

Your Weekend Beautyscope

Friday, April 26th, 2013

I guess being that girl who’s either asking strangers, friends, or basically anyone in close proximity to me, “What is your astrological sign?” and “What lipstick are you wearing?” and then giving detailed suggestions has been perfect training to write our new feature, Beautyscope: an extended weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) forecast with corresponding beauty predictions fit just for you. Because, in my opinion, people are more likely to use the products they buy on the weekend when they actually have time to test them out (I know I’m guilty of this)–aka no more beauty-buyers remorse! Let the reading begin:

Manicurious: Miss World

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

The recent phenomenon of holographic everything–which I think of as an ode to ravers and, like, Zenon Girl of the 21st Century–is also a refreshing approach to the ’90s revival (think: anti-grunge).  And that includes on your nails.

So naturally I got every colored lucid-lacquer I could find.

It’s Beachy

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

We’ll be the first to admit that there’s no such thing as a “miracle in a bottle,” but every once in awhile a truly life-changing product does come along. One of those products is undeniably Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray (seriously, ask any stylist or beauty editor.) Using replicated versions of sea kelp and other oceanic things, it actually does transform your everyday, shampoo-washed hair into trip-to-the-ocean hair—the kind that’s so perfectly textured and windblow that you hate having to wash it out. The waviness, the matte-ness, the salty feel—the iconic, matte bottle of Surf Spray makes it all possible.

That’s why Bumble’s latest products—Surf Foam Wash Shampoo and Surf Creme Rinse Conditioner—has us riled up all over again. We washed, rinsed, and repeated with the new products this weekend and are happy to report back that the results were as beachy keen as that of the spray. Consider this your warning: The shampoo and conditioner doesn’t hit shelves until May 1st, but we’re giving you this heads up because it’ll sell out fast.—RAY SIEGEL
