the manliest manicure

Monday, April 16th, 2012

sdGet ready, because a new kind of product is about to put a whole new ring to the word “MANicure.”

The men’s skincare and grooming brand, Evolutionman, has teamed up with fashion designer and stylist on a new guys-only nail color.

The lacquer comes in a masculine black matte spiked with gold flecks and can be spiced up with the Pure Bling Nail Varnish which turns the paint from dull to shiny.

Guys with nail polish is nothing new- but is this really a good idea?

Check it out for yourself and get back to us…

something’s fishy…

dIn part two of this week’s excessive nail designs: the caviar manicure!

As part of their new collaboration with Sephora, Ciaté is now offering a good-enough-to-eat manicure that they call the Caviar (but if you ask us, we think it looks a more like cupcake decoration…).

It’s available now in sets to do at home–including a base polish and the pearlescent beads, in either rainbow, black, or white.

Don’t want to DIY? Come May, the pros can do it for you in Sephora stores.

It looks pretty delicious in this picture, and we can’t wait to try it out for ourselves (minus the beaded lips).

What do you think? The caviar/cupcake manicure: good idea, or bad idea?

$25 at Sephora

Fact: Butterflies are delicate, feminine, and really pretty.

So we’re not totally shocked by the recent influx of butterfly-inspired beauty products.

That being said, our inner-girly-Barbie-lover is kind of going nuts for these.

nail strips for the overachievers

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

dNail strips are the ultimate lazy beauty weapon.

They look great, are easy to apply, and take way less time than attempting the nail art ourselves (although sometimes we lie and pretend we did…)

But if you really want to go above and beyond, check out these Nail Fraud strips from Urban Outfitters.

They’re blank, which means you can draw on them before putting them on your nails, making the whole process a little bit easier.

test drive: benefit’s boo boo zap!

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

dsAcne solutions aren’t exactly the most glamorous beauty items, but here’s the thing: we’re always on the hunt for one that works.

So rather than putting cleaning products on your face (hey, they did it in My Big Fat Greek Wedding!), or using topical ointments that go on white and flakey, try Benefit’s new Boo Boo Zap! medicated acne treatment.

The clear formula behaves a lot like rubbing alcohol: it goes on invisible, soaks up the toxins, and dries within a minute, so you can treat your blemish pretty much any time.

We were skeptical at first, but after a few test runs this lip gloss-sized tube became our new go-to beauty item.

Plus, you can even apply it over makeup, and it clears up anything from reddish blemishes to the most heinous zits.

Clear up in record time and buy it for just $16 here.

Thakoon’s new nail collection for NARS was inspired by the candy-colored hair in the designer’s Spring/Summer show.

It launches May 1, which gives you plenty of time to run to Ricky’s and grab some hair dye…..

neutral state

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

dsWith their rich pigment and smooth, opaque texture, OCC Lip Tar isn’t exactly for the shy.

But if you’re not ready to sport the traffic-stopping deep purple or Katy Perry pink quite yet, think of the brand’s new Neutral Kit as your training wheels.

These everyday shades include pale peach, terra cotta bronze, pink, and light plum.

Oh, and we forget to mention, they’ve also thrown in a dramatic red for good measure…for whenever you’re bold enough to vamp it up (we have a feeling it will be sooner rather than later).
