Cara Delevingne x YSL

Friday, March 22nd, 2013

If you thought Cara Delevingne couldn’t possibly take on another major campaign—guess again. She’s the face of Yves Saint Laurent’s new Volume Effet Faux Cils Baby Doll mascara.

Press play to watch Cara and her mischievous smile dance all over the new YSL video. If closeup shots of her putting mascara on those long lashes isn’t enough to get you to buy a tube, then we’re afraid there’s no hope.—RAY SIEGEL

Editor’s Pick: Ob x Shu Uemura

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

At first, the thought of voluntarily rubbing oil all over my skin really freaked me out. Body oil seemed less scary—if you used it right after you shower it doesn’t even leave one trace of grease. In fact, I had become obsessed with body oil this winter—it was the only way to avoid gross, winter dryness and instead my skin has been crazy soft. It hadn’t occurred to me that an oil-based cleanser could have the same effect on my face and that—like with any other product—if I chose the right one, it wouldn’t make me break out.

I was forced to be confronted with my oily-faced fears at a skincare event when a facialist applied it for me (that’s usually what we do before we come into work) and my skin never felt softer. Yes, the best analogy to use here is a baby’s ass—but it’s true. Just rub it on and then remove it with a warm towel (never a hot towel—you could get broken capillaries!). With this method, the less water you use on your face, the better. Orange Blossom x Shu Uemura makes a great option that helps balance your skin and—super importnat—the bottle is cute.—RAY SIEGEL

Model Behavior: Constance Jablonski

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

We have an entire March Madness category devoted to the models, the designers, and the industry insiders that we’re always curious to know more about. UK model Cara Delevingne has been hogging everyone’s attention lately, but in NYC the streets are literally flooded with top models.

In this super insidery video, French model Constance Jablonski walks you through a day in her New York City life: playing ping pong with Liu Wen, revealing her favorite local spots, plus the real perk: her behind-the-scenes access to fashion and beauty.—RAY SIEGEL

Beauty Obsession of the Week: Pencil It In

NYLON’s Beauty Director Katie Dickens favorite arrival of the week: When you’re going for the minimal look but don’t want to look like you just rolled out of bed, do a quick once-over with one of these tinted gloss sticks from NYC New York Color. They impart the slightest hint of color and shine, plus the stick application is way neater than your average gloss. Out in June!

Beauty Obsession of the Week: Ready For This Gelee

Monday, March 11th, 2013

NYLON’s Beauty Director Katie Dickens favorite arrival of the week: Even if you’re averse to blush, you’ll fall for these Josie Maran super sheer tinted gels. They impart cheeks with just a hint of color so there no chance of overdoing it. And they’re infused with coconut water and argan oil, so they’re also hydrating.

The cheek gels hit stores in time for summer–if you can’t wait, shop Josie Maran’s current range of cheek enhancers here.

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Absinthe For Your Body

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Today is National Absinthe Day–apparently people need a special day to drink the green stuff–and though you could celebrate with a bottle of it, The Body Shop has a very different idea.

They’ve recently launched an entire range of products featuring absinthe extract (aka wormwood), which is what gives the alcoholic beverage its color and taste–and also, when mixed with skincare ingredients, helps fight nasty odors and clean hands without drying them out. The entire Absinthe Purifying Hand Care line includes a hand butter, hand cream, purifying hand gel, and hand wash. I tested them out and they’re all ultra-moisturizing (also, big fan of the fact that it’s fair trade shea butter from Ghana used in the lotions) and, if you’re not into floral, ultra-feminine fragrances, you’ll like the sharp, clean scent.

But when it comes down to it, are you ready for absinthe to be part of more than just your Friday night routine? (And if you are, shop the collection here.) –REBECCA WILLA DAVIS

Everything You Wanted to Know About the Beauty Look at Chanel

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Whether you love or loathe Chanel, it’s a cold hard fact that few shows exert more influence over beauty regimens–in particular, the polish we paint on our nails–than the French fashion house. From dark nails to light, opaque to french manicured, if Karl sends it down the runway on his models’ hands, it’s destined to be a sell-out shade (and an oft-copied one at that).

So rather than report on the clothes at this morning’s show (everything was black, blue, or red-pink, and there were lots of double-breasted jackets), we’re going to get to the good stuff first: the nails.

The Face: Dior Fall ’13

Friday, March 1st, 2013

It’s the first season that all of the makeup artists challenged the placement of eyeliner because we’ve seen it being misplaced at so many shows: There were random red lines under the eyes at Altuzarra, teal blocks and lines at Calla. Then enter in Dior’s magic touch: the almost paint-like metallic brush stores are perhaps the best version yet. But let’s not ignore the hot pinks lips. They’re frosty on the outside and darker in the center—consistent with the two-tone/stained trend we’ve been seeing—but this time the lip color looks more intentionally worn off. So it’s a new day: lip colors no longer have to “stay” and eyeliner can be drawn just about anywhere. Pretty cool.—RAY SIEGEL

Cara’s First Fragrance

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

The Cara Delevingne craze isn’t going anywhere just yet. Thanks to Grazia, we just learned that the model signed her first ever fragrance contract with Burberry. It’s not super surprising because her and her bushy brows are the face of every single other Burberry campaign too, but somehow associating her with a specific scent, which by the way is called ‘Body Tender,’ is somehow a bigger deal.

We haven’t spritzed it yet, but if we had to guess what Cara smells like it’d be a mix of baby powder, the finest champagne, and maybe a dirty “Rita’s Wifey” tank that’s been lying on her floor since New York Fashion Week. JK—Cara obvs smells like a bouquet of fresh roses. Will you be buying a bottle?—RAY SIEGEL
