Actual topic of Digital Department gossip this morning…

Today, the first official images of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby hit the web.
As you definitely already know,
Leo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan are playing Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan.
Back in 1974, Robert Redford and Mia Farrow took on these roles.
And even though they looked ridiculously good-looking together, their on-screen chemistry wasn’t really there.
What do you think: Will Carey and Leo face the same issue playing the literary icons?
P.S. If in need of some outfit inspiration, we highly suggest looking at Farrow’s style in ’74 film.
It’s unreal.
The actress, Miu Miu model, and NYLON It girl turns the big 1-5 today.
Next up, Hailee’s starring as Juliet in a little film called Romeo and Juliet (maybe you’ve heard of the story?) opposite Ed Westwick.
But that’s the first of many projects, since she also has two films- Rosaline and the adaptation of the sci-fi novel Ender’s Game- coming up on the horizon.
Not too bad for someone who still isn’t old enough to have a driver’s license….
Happy birthday, Hailee!
Keep being amazing.

Well, kind of…
Here’s NYLON cover girl Ashley Greene as a guest-star on last night’s episode of Pan Am.
Ashley played an old friend of a pilot who arrives in London to thwart a young stewardess’ crush.
Alas, she doesn’t get to do much – at least not in this episode – but she looks awfully cool in her vintage ’60s outfit.
Want to see Ashley playing something besides a Cullen?

Ever since Mean Girls, we haven’t been able to get enough of Amanda.
Let’s face it- she’s cool, she knows how to dress, and she’s really, really funny.
Oh, and she’s an animal lover.
But we doubt we actually need to convince you of any of this…
So instead we’re going to wish Ms. Seyfried a very happy (and 1-day early) 25th birthday!
xoxo, NYLON

Neurotics, self-deprecating jokesters, awkward bespectacled Jewish kids, and women who prefer masculine dressing all owe a rousing round of the “Happy Birthday” song today: it’s Woody Allen’s 76th birthday.
Whether you know him from Annie Hall and Midnight in Paris or Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex (But Were Afraid To Ask), it’s safe to say we’ve all learned a little something from Allen’s works; perhaps it’s how to deflect a crazed Spanish woman, how to joke about being a complete failure in relationships, or speaking sarcasm as a second language.
Being New Yorkers, we love how his diehard faithfulness to the Big Apple played out in snide yet gentle jokes and beautiful cinematography.
Almost everyone can remember the first Woody Allen moment they had–for me, it was realizing how cool hats could be on girls in Annie Hall and adopting an extremely dry sense of humor as a disaffected teen.
From all of us who’ve ever been called awkward…happy birthday, Woody!
You’re living proof the geeks really do get the glory in the end.

We love our style editor Dani Stahl, and so does E! Entertainment.
The home of Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, and Ryan Seacrest welcomes Dani tonight on their new show Scouted, a real-life look at how young models in America are developed at the early stages of their careers.
Dani will be working with One Model Management, which represents one of NYLON’s original founders, Helena Christensen.

If your family isn’t making you laugh today, maybe this will…
Joey Tribiani has a turkey stuck on his head. Watch the video for more insanity…
(There’s also this gem from another Friends Thanksgiving, when Brad Pitt comes to dinner…
First came the 3D re-release of “The Lion King,” making a surprisingly successful impact on the box office.
Then last week, we couldn’t stop watching the trailer for Titanic 3-D.
The latest classic to enter the new dimension: Beauty and the Beast, the Disney fairytale that made movie history as the first animated film to get an Academy Award Nomination for Best Picture.
One question: Will you go see Belle when she returns to theaters on January 13th?
This definitely brings a whole new meaning to “Tale as old as time….”

Our June/July 2008 cover girl turns 27 today.
It’s fitting she covered our annual Music Issue, considering the NYC-bred actress has singing chops, too (she released her debut album back in May ’08).
Next month, we can catch her in the Cameron Crowe movie We Bought a Zoo, where she plays- yes, a zookeeper.
But until then, we’ll just watch The Horse Whisperer for even more Scarlett…
Wishing her the happiest of birthdays!
