Emma Watson’s next role: Burglar?

Apparently our sweet Hermione is growing up…

We just got word Ms. Watson is set to star in Sophia Coppola’s upcoming film,
The Bling Ring.

If the title sounds familiar it’s because the movie’s based on the bizarre real-life scandal from a couple years ago, in which celeb-obsessed teens broke into various celeb homes.

Aside from being surprised by Coppola’s choice to direct this, we’re also having a hard time imagining the starlet in such a dark and twisted role.

That being said, we’re pretty sure Emma can do anything.

clarissa explains it all: the album

Clarissa Darling, rock star?

Well, kind of.

Actress Melissa Joan Hart recorded an album for the Nickeolodeon show Clarissa Explains It All back in 1994, and the entire thing has leaked onto YouTube.

The On Set Uniform

onset
After seeing this pic of Blake Lively (left),
spotted this morning on the set of “Gossip Girl,”
we started thinking…

Why do starlets always wear a massive black down-filled coat and UGG boots while filming?

Is there some secret actress society where they’re all given uniforms?

It can’t always be that cold where they’re shooting, right?

Somebody, anybody, please give us some insight.

Although it’s been 40-plus years since the hungry hero and his friends first hit arcades, Pac Man is still going strong thanks to a Moleskine collection, wall decals, and a very stylish wife.

Now he’s returning to the screen.

But this time around it’s for a new 3-D animated series for Disney XD, called Pac-Man- The Adventure Begins.

It’s launching this fall on the satellite channel, and might just be the excuse you were looking for to renew your cable subscription.

judy blume gets a movie!

dsIt’s about time.

Can you believe that the author, who’s responsible for childhood-shaping books like Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret and Forever…. has never had a Hollywood adaptation of her works? (then again, that might be a good thing…).

But now we hear that her 1981 drama Tiger Eyes is the first to get the big screen treatment.

Starring Willa Holland (otherwise known as Marissa’s younger sis Kaitlin Cooper on The O.C.) as the protagonist Davey, the screenplay was written by Blume and her son, Lawrence.

The movie will hit theaters later this year, but if you suddenly feel the urge to indulge in some pre-teen nostalgia and reread the book?

We definitely don’t blame you.

Inspired by “mass gymnastics and experimental cinema from the 20s and 30s,”
Paris Mavroidis’ animated short is truly amazing.

It’s strangely relaxing to watch and left us in a trance-like state,
which is greatly appreciated after a long hard week.

Enjoy!

happy birthday, dakota fanning!

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

fdDakota Fanning is talented, gorgeous, and has done a really good job of making even the biggest overachievers among us seem like slackers ever since she first started acting back in 2001.

Now more than 10 years later, with a slew of film roles, fashion campaigns (hello, Marc Jacobs!) and even Twilight cred to show for it, the Georgia native turns the big 1-8 today.

Next up on the agenda?

The drama Now Is Good with Kaya Scodelario and the Lizzie Olsen and Anton Yelchin flick Very Good Things, along with- we’re betting- lots of NYU homework.

Happy birthday, Dakota!

We hope you can take a night off the books and celebrate.

film for all

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Sometimes the best way to beat the system is to DIY.

Just ask NYC indie filmmaker Damon Cardasis, who decided to create his own film festival last year after facing difficulties getting his work accepted to the major showcases.

Cardasis’ pet project, the LES* Film Festival (created with partners Shannon Walker, Tony Castle, and Roxy Hunt), debuted last year as a way for low-budget indie filmmakers from around the world to display their work, with BYOB screenings followed by Q&A sessions with directors and actors.

The not-so-fledgling event completely sold out, so this year they’re making it even bigger, adding Sunshine Cinema and The Crosby Street Hotel as screening locations, and a larger film roster with stars like Willem Dafoe, Dolly Parton, Jon Heder, Whitney Cummings, and even Susan Sarandon (she’s on the judging panel, along with writers from 30 Rock and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon)

The best part?

Tickets are only $10, and anyone can go to the screenings, which start March 6th.

Check out the  website for a list of events, but don’t wait: we have a feeling this won’t be under the radar for long.

julep
Unless you’ve been living under a rock,
we’re betting you know the Academy Awards air live this Sunday.

This year, Julep is celebrating with a line of Oscar-themed polishes,
dedicated to the best actresses.

In order from left to right:
Glenn (Close), Rachel (Weisz), Meryl (Streep), Marisa (Tomei), Viola (Davis), Lizzie (Olsen)
And the glittery gold is for Oscar himself.

We love the idea and the look of the polishes but we have one question:
What about Rooney Mara and Michelle Williams?!
Rachel, Marisa, and Lizzie aren’t even nominated this year,
so why did they get lacquered?
Something seems awry…

Check out the set here!
