BRING THE HEAT
Saturday, April 26th, 2008
It is four-o’clock in the afternoon and still 100 degrees. I open the front door to my hotel room and am instantly hit with an uncomfortable blast of hot, thick air. For three days, artists, executives, socialites and LA kids with lots of spare change will reside in the air-conditioned villas of La Quinta Spa & Resort as an escape from the insanity that is the Coachella campsite.
The festival, which houses thousands of half-naked sun-burt hipsters, will attempt - for approximately 12 hours each day — to expose this years’ most up-and-coming artists. Yesterday began with the pop-electro beats of Cut Copy and ended with the humble guitar strums of headliner Jack Johnson. Throughout the evening I watched acts as varied as The National, The Verve, and Swell Season (the Academy Award winning duo from indie-music flick “Once”) and caught up with NYLON favorite Vampire Weekend and my new obsession Santogold.
Keep Listening, Nicolette (more…)
