Go Go Gadget Gatsby!

February 5th, 2010

My friend Annie’s in a play.

Produced by the ART Theater in Cambridge, MA, it’s called Gatz and it’s basically this:

Reading the entire Great Gatsby, from beginning to end, in the theater, while people act out all the parts, insert song and dance, and generally take the pages into the direction of wild, zany, fun performance art.

It takes, like, eight hours.

If you’ve got the energy to sit through it, get there.

If you’re like, “Are you kidding me? Eight hours of tenth grade English repeats?” then we highly recommend the ’70s movie version, which starred Mia Farrow.

Swish!

February 5th, 2010

If you live in the mid-Atlantic states like us, you’re bracing for an imminent blizzard.

And while that means ordering three days’ worth of pizza and Chinese food, it also allows for one last weekend of winter sports.

We’ll be hitting Hunter Mountain tomorrow with Burton, where they’ve promised to teach us how to board.

If there’s cell phone reception up there, we’ll be Tweeting our adventures -

If not, stay tuned for some (blurry, snowy) photos of our mountain trek on Monday!

Now:

Any advice for us before we go out there?!

Model DJ Whatever!

February 5th, 2010

Check out Chanel Iman, left, at the H&M for Sonia Rykiel party last night in New York City.

Chanel’s wearing her requisite DJ uniform:

An American Apparel burnout tank over a designer lace bra, with jeans and massive heels.

She’s also wearing a giant smile, which is gorgeous -

And something not typically worn by a trendy DJ!

That’s Not My Name

February 5th, 2010

Remember our lovely intern, Spacey Tracy?

She’s now in Los Angeles pursuing her art and photography.

But she’s also - apparently - starring in the new ads for Olsenboye, the clothing collection from Mary Kate and Ashley that’s now sold at J.C. Penney.

Tracy looks adorable and great in the clothes, but there’s one small problem:

HER NAME’S NOT CHLOE!

Come on MK & A, what’s up with the identity crisis?!

The Mary Kate Polaroid!

February 4th, 2010

Behold:

Mary Kate Olsen, smiling like she means it at last night’s Olsenboye party at Norwood.

The cocktail hour was held to launch Ashley and Mary Kate’s collection for J.C. Penney, something that involves a lot of t-shirts, ripped denim, and tote bags covered in neon peace signs.

Meanwhile, Mary Kate wore a scarlet wrap dress, and Ashley sported a floor-length, long sleeve, diaphanous black gown.

Which, we’re sure, you can buy at a J.C. Penney near you!

Tag! Budapest

February 3rd, 2010

“Hey Faran,

I’m not sure if you’re into stickerfitti, but here’s a Polaroid shot of what my sister and I found near the Danube in Budapest.

xx Tracianne”

Yeah, we’re into all “fitti.”

So if you’ve got some, send it over!

Today, intern Graham claimed he was in a tagging posse back in LA.

Major points to anyone who sends in images of that.

Alice: The Music Video

February 3rd, 2010

So at this point, Alice in Wonderland has invaded Tim Burton’s lens, the design studio of Tom Binns, and the makeup counters of Urban Decay.

Now it’s also invading music studios.

Today the first images were released from “Tea Party,” the first song that revolves specifically around the upcoming Alice movie (and is featured on the soundtrack).

Starring pop singer Kerli (left), the video was dreamed up with help from stylist Mika Fowler (right), who mixed elements of the Alice film with imagery from Marie Antoinette, Harajuku street style, and Euro disco (if you can’t guess by her impeccable eyeliner, Kerli’s friends with the Tokio Hotel boys, and was recently featured on a track with them).

By the Book

February 3rd, 2010

Ever feel like purchasing technological gadgets violates your classical aesthetic?

Do you find yourself craving to trade your expensive block ‘o aluminum for a scroll and quill?
Good news: we’ve found a way to transform your MacBook into first edition Tolstoy novel! Well, sort of…

The BookBook, a hardback leather case for MacBook-ers and MacBook Pro’s, disguises high-tech machinery as an antique work of art.

Yes, they’re a bit pricey ($79.99), but we do love the “no two are alike” guarantee. After all, that’s the best part of buying vintage, right?

I Heart You

February 3rd, 2010

Valentine’s Day?

Painfully lame.

YSL’s L-O-V-E charm necklace?

Painfully hip.

So even though we’re officially against all things candy-hearted, mooshy-smooshy, and “you’re nobody ’til somebody pays too much for flowers,” we can endorse this accessory purely on the grounds of good style.

Visit YSL.com for prices and boutiques.
