Tag! The Bear
November 5th, 2009
When flipping through photos of the artist Lisa Solberg yesterday, we found something funny:
Here she is in Los Angeles posing with one of those crazy bears!
That makes four that we’ve seen so far, in two cities…
And now here.
Anybody else want to send a photo from this animal-based tagger?

(You can send regular graffiti there, too!)
I Wanna Be Sedated
November 5th, 2009
When I finally decided to turn my ’20s bob into a ’60s mop, my first thought was make my hair look like Lou’s.
(Apparently I’m not the only person inspired by her.)
But then I got it cut, and it reminded me of someone else: Dee Dee Ramone.
This tee from Blood Is The New Black exemplifies why.
Despite that whole rap thing, Dee Dee was smarter than he came off — all the way up to his head of killer hair.
Sure, he contributed his songwriting talents to such classics as “Chinese Rocks”, but his ultimate accomplishment just might be making the short shag look effortlessly cool.
Okay, just kidding, “Rockaway Beach” is his ultimate accomplishment. But the hair’s a close second… xxRebecca

the Gilded Age
November 5th, 2009
I’ve been having flashbacks to my jr. high days (could be that fashion styles from those days of yore are popping up in my wardrobe again).
One memory sticks out in my mind: Sitting on a patent leather high chair at tweeny mall-fave, Claires, hugging a teddy bear while getting my ears pierced.
And were the gunshot wounds to my earlobes completely in vain? I hope not, but lately, the lobes have been looking a little sparse. I’ve been going bare recently, maybe a protest to all the dangly stuff I’ve previously worn.
My friend Alice sensed my earring dilemma, and is now getting me these (left) for my birthday:
I was like, “girl say whhhhaaaaaa???”
These oxidized sterling silver, prickly porcupine-inspired hoops are amazing, from her friend Kristen Elspeth’s Gilded Age collection.
Muppet Babies, They’ll Make Your Dreams Come True

Several years ago, the New York Times famously followed the “life” of fictional author JT Le Roy, peeling back every layer of the novelist’s identity until they at last revealed him to be a hoax.
Now they’ve taken a totally different stance on fictional characters, offering readers the chance to send their questions into their ArtsBeat blog…
For Big Bird.
The Sesame Street staple will be taking queries from New York Times readers all week, and responding online to a select few.
Are there questions we want to ask Big Bird?
Not really -
But if you ask Oscar the Grouch to come onto the scene, send us an email - we’re SO there.
Angels in the Outfield
November 5th, 2009
Last week, NYLON It Girl Rosie Huntington-Whitley got announced as a new Victoria’s Secret Angel.
This week, ten more finalists have their chance to wear wings (and bras, and panties).
We sat down with a few of the chosen girls - who currently live at The District in downtown New York while competing for the Angel prize - in the middle of the competition.
Do they have what it takes to be the next Miranda Kerr?
Check out their weekly webisodes to find out - and vote for your favorite on November 9.
Meanwhile, see some tidbits from our very difficult investigative reporting…
Blast from the Past

One of the great things about Sale-Only websites is the idea of getting back stock.
That’s an industry term for clothes that are a few seasons old, but for whatever reason haven’t yet made it to the sales floor.
Back stock is exactly what’s happening right now at The Outnet, where pieces from Marc Jacobs’ 2006 collection are slowly trickling onto their virtual sales floor.
For instance:
This velvet leopard dress, taken from a Stephen Sprouse print later used (by Marc Jacobs) for Louis Vuitton, originally walked down the runway almost four years ago, worn by Jessica Stam.
Now?
It’s $520 - expensive, but 80% off the original price, if you can believe it - at The Outnet.
Friday Takes Thursday
November 4th, 2009
There will be plenty of action on nylonmag.com tomorrow, but we don’t mind directing you somewhere else for a tiny bit of time.
It’s to TV.com, where Taylor Kitsch - aka Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights - will host a live video feed tomorrow to take questions from fans.
We’ll be tuning in, especially after remembering our story with the actor in May’s Young Hollywood issue, but we’ll have to resist the urge to Skype their offices and scream like batty fan girls.
But if any of you want to do that, we’ll be rooting for you.
Click here tomorrow at 1 PM Pacific Time / 4 PM Eastern Time to join the chat.
